Work at night: for and against

Despite the fact that most of us are accustomed to work on a standard working schedule and leave work no later than 18.00, some specific production facilities, as well as 24-hour enterprises in the service sector, require their employees to work on slightly different conditions. How harmful is work at night, is it advisable to agree to such vacancies for the sake of higher in comparison with daily earnings?

Of course, some businesses are simply unable to completely abandon night shifts. Especially it concerns the production complexes, in which there is equipment, the stop of which is impossible. Night shifts at metallurgical plants or factories for the production of rolled metal are an inevitable business. Modern megacities are also unlikely to be able to abandon the now so popular 24-hour shops, entertainment and catering. Consequently, work at night will eventually become more and more in demand.

For many people, this type of employment becomes an ideal solution, and not only because of higher pay. Often conflict situations at home or in the former "daytime" version of the team force a person to prefer to work at night. The issue of transferring to another shift is decided by each person independently, depending on one or another life circumstances.

But it should be remembered that, according to doctors, such employment should not be systematic. Recent studies have shown that working at night leads to the development of cancer. This is due, first of all, to the fact that the development of a very important hormone melatonin, which helps the body to fight not only with aging, but also with the development of cancer cells, occurs exclusively at night. Therefore, finding a night in a lighted room can stop the pineal body from working and make the body vulnerable to oncological diseases. In addition, a sharp change in daily rhythms is not beneficial. Work at night is harmful to a person, so if you can not avoid it, you need to make every effort to ensure that it does not have a systematic nature. For this purpose, it is advisable to draw up special work schedules, trying to ensure that the same person has the opportunity to work not only in the night, but also in the day.

It should be noted that night employment, as well as work on weekends, is paid at a higher rate than the usual day shift at the same enterprise. But not always the employer meets his employees and honestly pays for the night hours. In order to be able to defend our position on this issue reasonably, it is worthwhile to carefully consider the issues of studying the peculiarities of labor legislation on this topic.

Payment for work at night: the main provisions of the Labor Code

The night work in Russia is considered to be work after 22.00, it is from this time begins the night shift and increases the usual pay. According to Article 154 of the Labor Code, hourly pay for night work must necessarily be higher than similar work in the daytime. At the same time, the minimum size, which should be increased wages for night shifts, is established by the Government of the Russian Federation. As for each specific enterprise, this percentage ratio should be more clearly specified in the collective agreement concluded by employees with the enterprise, or local (local) normative act.

In any case, work at night requires higher pay and the employee has the right to demand an appropriate recalculation of his salary.
