What is low placenta?

Children are the dream of almost every woman, but too many know how many problems can arise with its embodiment. There are many different pathologies that can complicate labor, complicate the course of pregnancy and even cause miscarriages. Therefore it is desirable to know the features of the course of your pregnancy, and also at least superficially to be familiar with possible complications. One of them is low placentation.

This term denotes a condition where the placenta is located less than 6 cm from the throat of the uterus. There are only 4 types of low placentation:

  1. The placenta is located only slightly below the established rate.
  2. The lower edge of the placenta is located near the throat of the uterus.
  3. The placenta partially covers the cervix.
  4. The placenta covers the cervix, this condition is called placenta previa.

Low placenta previa in the first two cases allows for independent births, provided that there will be no other complications. In the last two cases, a planned cesarean section is inevitable . However, this outcome is expected by no more than 10% of women who are diagnosed with such a diagnosis.

Usually a fertilized egg is attached closer to the bottom of the uterus, that is, in its upper part. This is the location of the placenta is normal. However, in some cases, the attachment is much lower. The causes of this phenomenon can be, for example, multiple abortions, or one unsuccessful, infectious diseases, congenital defects of the uterus: in general, everything that can cause damage to the endometrium. In addition, women who smoke, women with multiple pregnancies, second and subsequent births are also at risk. However, it is not yet possible to determine exactly what exactly leads to low placentation.

What else is dangerous for low placenta? First, in the lower part of the uterus the endometrium is less suitable for the child, secondly, under the weight of the fetus, it is likely that some vessels will be clamped on the uterus, which can cause hypoxia, oxygen starvation.

In addition, low placenta virtually no symptoms. In some cases, vaginal bleeding is possible in the third trimester. Most often, there are only mucus discharge, less uncontrolled bleeding, which can be dangerous for a woman and a child. There is bleeding due to the fact that the growing fetus begins to put a heavy pressure on the placenta with its weight, as a result of which the abruption of the placenta can begin .

However, most often a low placentation can be determined only by ultrasound. However, do not worry if such a diagnosis was put to you in the first half of pregnancy. The fact is that the placenta has the ability to migrate, and the uterus grows, so that the attachment of the placenta shifts higher from its neck. Naturally, with an increase in the period, the chances for this fall, and after 20 weeks the diagnosis of "Low placentation" is most likely already final.

The further depends on several factors. If the placenta does not block the cervix, there is no bleeding, and the condition of the fetus does not cause fear, then the woman will be sent home to carry the pregnancy, and the childbirth is likely to be independent. If some of the complications listed above occur, it is possible that a pregnant woman will be offered to lie down for preservation, will monitor her health and the health of the child, and if necessary, scheduled cesarean will be prescribed.

What should a woman with low placenta do? First of all, even more carefully follow all the recommendations that give all pregnant women: do not lift weights, do not strain, have more rest. Any stress can cause placenta detachment. In addition, it is necessary to abandon sexual life also to avoid overvoltage.
