How to know the exact amount of a tablespoon, dessert, and tea

Very often in culinary recipes it is indicated that it is required to take a certain amount of this or that ingredient, indicated in table or teaspoons. Therefore, to translate the product into milliliters or milligrams you need to know the volume of a tablespoon.

It is believed that in modern Russia or CIS countries the spoon for the first contains 18 ml of liquid. In other countries, the volume of a tablespoon is different: in the US, as well as in Canada and New Zealand, this volume is expressed as 15 ml. In Australia, a tablespoon holds a little more - 20 ml.

This confusion a little embarrasses, does not it? And if you look into the box with cutlery, almost every housewife will find that in her arsenal there are spoons of completely different patterns. So the confidence that each of them has a volume equal to 18 ml, melts without a trace.

Of course, if the landlady undertakes to pickle cabbage or pickle vegetables, a very big problem does not arise when reading the recipe. But here it is not recommended to use this device for measuring medications without first calculating its volume.

How can you calculate the volume of a tablespoon? Very simple! True, for "laboratory work" you need any container with divisions (today often such beaker glasses appear on the market) or a faceted glass with a risk of a capacity of 200 ml.

With a tablespoon, we should fill the glass with water by the marks. The device should be tried to fill the maximum, as they say, "with a slide", the water from it can not be spilled past the glass. Each filling should be marked, for example, put aside a coin or throw a pea in a cup. Of course, you can write it down on paper - as you like it more. But it's better not to rely on your own memory, because it's easy to lose count.

After the water has accumulated enough (for the risk in the glass), one should do arithmetic calculations. For example, I had 13 tablespoons of water in the glass. Hence, you need 200 ml: 13 = 15.4 ml. Hence, I conclude that the volume of a tablespoon I have is 15.4 ml, and not 18, as many ancient references assure.

The second "laboratory work" will be aimed at finding out how many milliliters of bulk products can accommodate a tablespoon. Spray is similar to the first, only water is replaced with flour or sugar, mango or salt.

You can make two calculations: for a spoon, which is filled "without a roller coaster" and for one filled with a top.

In the same way, you can calculate the capacity of the dessert or the volume of a teaspoon. The accuracy of these calculations is, of course, approximate. It depends on the number of "overflows" in the glass. That is, the more these actions, the more approximate the result. And, accordingly, the less you have to pour water with a spoon, the more accurately you can calculate the index of interest.

Hence, the calculation of the volume of a tablespoon is more accurate than that of a tea spoon. However, most manipulations with the latter indicate that almost all modern Russian tea spoons contain 5 ml of liquid.

The same is claimed by all sorts of reference books. On the question, how many in a teaspoon ml, they give the answer that in Russia and the countries of the former CIS this device has a volume equal to 5 milliliters.

The amounts of tea spoons in the US and England vary slightly. It is indicated that in the United States of America it is 4.93 ml, and English contains only 3.55 ml.

As for medicines, most often today in the pharmacy the consumer receives a mixture or syrup, to which is attached a device for consumption, mainly a plastic spoon of the required volume. So in this case, problems should not arise.

The difficulty is only the manufacture and use of drugs, made according to the formula of traditional medicine. For accuracy of measurement it is possible to store pharmacy measurements that are sold together with the preparations.
