"Smecta" for poisoning: instructions for use

"Smecta" is used most often in case of poisoning. By chemical properties, the drug is classified as a group of intestinal adsorbents, and by pharmacological action - to drugs for the symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea. How to apply Smecta and what is its advantage over other drugs of this group?

Structure of the preparation

"Smecta" during poisoning acts effectively and quickly due to its composition. The main substance is a powder of natural origin from the group of aluminosilicates, like clay. The international name is dioctahedral smectite, or diosmectite. It is extracted naturally from natural breeds. To improve the taste and obtain a more stable suspension when the preparation is diluted with water, glucose, saccharin and vanillin are added to the formulation. Children's version of "Smekty" is released with orange flavor.

How does Smecta work?

The effect of the drug is based on its ability to selectively adsorb toxic substances and create a protective barrier together with intestinal mucus. "Smecta" poisoning takes away poisons, toxins, pathogenic bacteria and even viruses. Due to its special crystalline structure, smectite has a selective effect, does not remove vitamins and trace elements from the body. In the intestine, it is not absorbed and passes through, leaving naturally and carrying with it the products of poisoning.

The second, not less useful action of "Smekty" is its ability to increase the amount of intestinal mucus. Forming connections with the glycoproteins contained in it, smectite stabilizes the mucus in the intestine and improves its protective properties. Therefore, the impact of aggressive factors - hydrochloric acid in the stomach, bile acids in the intestine, bacteria and their toxins, as well as poisonous substances from outside - is significantly weakened. Possessing enveloping properties, Smecta slows the rate of absorption of poisons and toxins from the intestine into the bloodstream.

Dosage for adults

"Smecta" with diarrhea is taken in the following doses:

  • Single dose - one packet (3 grams),
  • The daily dose is three packets (9 grams).

Before use, the powder is diluted in water (about 100 ml), pouring it out and stirring constantly. Must be a cloudy suspension. When settling, the powder partially settles, it can be mixed again without losing the effectiveness of the drug.

How to drink Smectou in case of poisoning: after washing the stomach, dilute one packet, drink the mixture. If there is no vomiting, take a second packet in two hours. Then take the instructions, focusing on the manifestations of poisoning - diarrhea and vomiting.

Application for diarrhea

"Smecta" with diarrhea is taken three times a day for one sachet. The drug is effective in food poisoning with low-quality products, bacterial (salmonella, colibacteriosis), fungi, poisons of the chemical industry. Applied with allergic digestive disorders and poisoning with medicines. As a rule, if the disease occurs without complications, it takes about three days to restore normal stools. After stopping diarrhea, you can continue taking the drug for several days, as it has protective properties against the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, damaged during illness. It is not recommended to take the drug for more than seven days.

The use of Smecta in vomiting

The drug does not have an antiemetic effect. However, Smecta in case of poisoning can stop vomiting and reduce nausea. This is due to the fact that poisonous products bind faster and are removed from the body. Since vomiting is a protective mechanism aimed at getting rid of toxins and removing them from the stomach, the removal of poisons by enterosorbents stops emetic pushes. "Smecta" with nausea will only help if the process is local in nature and the central nervous system is not involved. Some toxins of fungi, medicines excite the vomiting center in the brain. In this case Smecta is powerless, the introduction of specific antidotes will be required.

With severe vomiting, taking any medicines inside is problematic. If the newly swallowed powder came out back with vomit, then another dose of "Smekty" should be taken, since the previous dose did not enter the intestine and did not have time to act. In the case when it is necessary to do a lavage of the stomach from the poison that has recently entered into the body, you can do this with a lot of warm water, dissolving in each liter two bags of "Smekty". The drug will adsorb poison in the stomach until the onset of vomiting.

Advantages

In comparison with other enterosorbents, Smecta has a number of advantages:

  • It has selective sorption properties.
  • Particles of smectite have a gentle texture and a smooth surface, do not damage the intestinal mucosa.
  • The drug has enveloping properties.
  • Rarely causes allergic reactions.
  • Virtually no side effects.

Often asked if Smecta is possible during pregnancy. Yes, the drug can be taken by pregnant and lactating women, as well as children of any age.

Disadvantages of the drug

"Smecta" for food poisoning is not shown to every patient. Do not administer the drug in the following cases:

With prolonged use of the drug for more than a week or with a significant excess of dosage, a decrease in the activity of intestinal peristalsis and constipation is possible.

A minor disadvantage of the preparation is that a suspension must be prepared from the powder before use. If poured into the glass first smectite, and then pour water, it is difficult to dissolve lumps. If you follow the instructions for breeding difficulties usually do not arise.

Like all enterosorbents, the drug should be taken separately from other drugs, making a break between them in two hours. Otherwise, Smecta will slow the absorption of the drug from the intestine or partially absorb it, weakening the effectiveness of the treatment.

How to give to children

Widely used "Smecta" for poisoning in children. In this case, the dosage will depend on the age.

  • For children up to one year, the daily dose is a maximum of 3 grams (1 sachet).
  • From one year to two years give 1-2 packets per day (maximum daily dose of 6 grams).
  • After two years, appoint 2-3 bags per day (up to 9 grams).

If the dosage is accidentally exceeded, nothing terrible will happen. Short-term constipation is possible, which is undesirable in case of poisoning, because toxic products must be removed from the body.

"Smecta" for poisoning in children is diluted in 50 ml of water, a milk mixture, fruit puree. It is desirable to use water, since dairy products somewhat reduce the effectiveness of the drug. Young children do not need to give a single portion at once. You can dilute a third of the sachet in 20-30 ml of liquid and give one teaspoon for 1-2 hours. Then take a break for two hours and give the next serving. Most kids "Smecta" does not like the taste. Some prefer a medicine with orange flavor, while others prefer to give a regular powder in a mixture with fruit puree.

Smecta for alcohol poisoning

Hangover syndrome is nothing but the poisoning of the body by the products of alcohol breakdown. Basically, nausea and headaches are caused by the formation in the tissues in large quantities of acetate compounds. In this case, the drug will not particularly relieve the symptoms. But if a person used low-quality alcohol or exceeded the dose, taking adsorbents slightly improves the situation. "Smecta" in case of poisoning - the instruction does not stipulate whether alcoholic poisoning is or not - is taken according to the general scheme - one packet three times a day. If you abuse the amount of alcohol you can drink three sachets with a break in two hours. The main thing is not to exceed the daily dose of 9 grams. This method is not recommended for people prone to constipation.

Will Smecta help with poisoning if a poisonous substance has not been transmitted through the mouth, but, say, through the respiratory tract? No, in these cases all enterosorbents are useless.

"Smecta" is taken in case of acute and chronic food poisoning, and also if poisons enter the body through the stomach and intestines. The drug is not absorbed into the blood, but remains in the lumen of the intestine, binding and removing from the body toxic substances. Diosmectite, which is the active substance of the drug, has a selective sorption effect, which distinguishes it from activated carbon. Like all adsorbents based on clay substances, diosmectite has the ability to increase the amount of mucus in the stomach and intestines, improve its gastroprotective properties with respect to hydrochloric acid, bile, bacteria and their toxins. To completely restore the activity of the intestine and stop diarrhea, it is necessary to take "Smecta" course from three to six days.
