F.M. Dostoevsky, "Demons" - a summary of the work

The most interesting characters, which Dostoevsky created, are demons in various guises, who have different purposes. They do not limit themselves to anything in the way of achieving the goal and are already interested in this.

In the center of the novel is a provincial provincial town. As a narrator and participant in events, chronicler Mr. Appears. He tells the story of Stepan Verkhovensky, who formed a platonic relationship with the notable lady Varvara Stavrogina. All this is described in detail by Dostoevsky. "Demons" (the content of the work can be found in any library) perfectly emphasize the tragedy of the situation.

Verkhovensky, preaching the "civic role," gradually observes that young people who are liberal-minded gather around him. It was this hero who brought up most of the other characters in the book. Previously, he was incredibly handsome, but now he can afford to play cards and not give up alcohol, this is clearly underlined by Dostoevsky. "Demons" originated from Verkhovensky, the master of minds.

The city is waiting for the arrival of Nikolai Stavrogin, the son of Varvara, who is the subject of rumors and conversations. It is known that, having done a lot of troubles in the city, he explained all his troubles with a white fever, after which he drove abroad. Varvara is concerned that Nikolai is giving signs of attention to Daria Shatova, who is a pupil of Stavrogina.

Parallel to this, Varvara Petrovna is interested in having her son become husband of Liza Tushina, which is why she plans to give Shatov for Stepan Trofimovich, who is her assistant. Verkhovensky is perplexed, but he reflects on how to make Daria's proposal. The confusion and helplessness that Dostoevsky demonstrates, the demons in Stepan's soul - all this is masterfully fit into the general outline of the narrative.

Varvara Petrovna invites Marya Lebyadkin, better known as the Cripple, because she received an anonymous message in which it was said that a lame woman would play a serious role in the life of a noble lady. As a result, Trofimovich, Lisa, Daria, Lebyadkina and her brother gather in one house. The meeting is interrupted by the arrival of Nikolai, whom Varvara waited not earlier than a month later.

Stavrogina specifies whether her son married Lebyadkina, but Nikolai does not answer the question and leaves with Marya. Verkhovensky states that Stavrogin made the girl a serious suggestion and now she considers him to be her fiancé. Brother Mary confirms everything. Shatov gives Stavrogin a slap in the face, but he does nothing in return.

Nicholas locked himself in the room and for eight days no one accepts. The first in his chambers is Verkhovensky and announces the creation of a secret society. Stavrogin becomes aware that Shatov is facing serious danger and even death.

Varvara's son tells Shatov that he is officially married to Lebyadkina and warns him of the danger. After this conversation he goes to his brother Mary and says that his marriage is a complete farce. The next day is commemorated by the duel of Stavrogin and Artemy Gaganov, who miraculously dispenses with victims. Meanwhile, a holiday is celebrated in the city dedicated to governesses.

The holiday ends with a scandal, where the residents of the city are running into Verkhovensky. After a huge number of terrible events, Stepan Trofimovich goes to St. Petersburg, followed by Varvara Petrovna, who finds him dying. This scene was tragically shown by Dostoyevsky, demons from the soul of Verkhovensky were expelled only on the eve of death.

Virtually all the heroes of the story fall under investigation, Nikolai Stavrogin calls Shatov in Switzerland, where he wants to live with her long and happily. The letter falls into the hands of Varvara Petrovna, but suddenly it becomes known that Nikolai came to Skvoreshniki. They go there, but they arrive too late. Perhaps the most mystical work that Dostoyevsky created is the "Demons", the summary of which can only encourage the reader to open this book.
