The story "The Captain's Daughter". Summary of the chapters

The story of A. S. Pushkin "The Captain's Daughter" is a short story about the events of the peasant revolt of 1773-1775 under the leadership of Cossack Emelian Pugachev. Subsequently, the events of that time in history were called "pugachevschina."

The story in the work is conducted on behalf of Peter Grinev - the son of a retired military man, who did not represent another fate for his boy. Already being a mature man, Peter describes in his memoirs the events of which he became an involuntary participant.

Start of the work

In the work "The Captain's Daughter", a summary of the chapters can be broken down in the course of events.

The first chapter tells how the father of the main character records his still unborn child in military service. Here the children's years of Peter Grinev are described. The first and only teacher and tutor of Petrusha was the servant Savelich, but the French teacher, who had not justified his trust, was expelled. Savelich for Grinev became not only a servant and educator - it was his adviser and a close friend. With him, the young man subsequently goes to military service.

String

In the story "The Captain's Daughter," the summary of the chapters clearly shows the characteristics of the character of the main characters. The actions that take place in the first chapters can be called the outset of the main events. They describe the prophetic sleep of Peter Grinev, whose significance he realized much later: about the fateful meeting of the young man with the peasant who changed his life. We learn about the beginning of the service in the Belogorsky fortress, acquaintance with the commandant's family, his daughter Masha and officer Shvabrin.

The beginning of love

In the work "The Captain's Daughter" (a brief summary of the chapters, read on) AS Pushkin describes the birth of love between the daughter of the commandant of the fortress Masha and Grinev; The heated relations between Shvabrin and Peter, which lead to a duel between them, are outlined. Unsuspicious vices of the lieutenant, such as anger and revenge, are revealed: he curses Masha about refusing to marry him, blackens the girl before Grinev's parents. As a result of these events, the father denies his son the parental blessing of marriage. In these chapters we see the beginning of the rebellion. Upon learning of the imminent danger, Masha is trying to take away. Cossacks guarding the fortress, go to Pugachev's army, and the few remaining defenders are executed. Savelich, having learned in Pugachev his guide, begs for mercy to his master. Shvabrin turns out to be a traitor when he, fearing for his life, switches to the service of Pugachev.

"The Captain's Daughter": a summary of chapters VIII-XVIII. Intensity of emotions

Despite the fact that Grinev does not recognize the king in Pugachev and promises that he will participate in suppressing the rebellion, he lets go. In Orenburg, where Grinev arrived, the general was not sure of his troops and on the council decides to wait outside the walls of the city, and at this time to bribe people from Pugachev's entourage. Masha is in the hands of Shvabrin in the fortress, Peter does not wait for help, Peter is leaving with his faithful servant. And the second time Grinev falls into the hands of Emelian Pugachev: after learning that Grinev is going to save the orphan, the robber helps to free the girl. Having sent Masha back to his parents, Peter remains and takes part in suppressing the rebellion. However, on the charge of service to Pugachev, the young man is arrested.

Describing the summary of the work "The Captain's Daughter", it is simply necessary to include the last - XIV chapter, where there is a story about the trial of Grinev, whom Shvabrin slandered, about how Masha, at a meeting with the Empress, told the story of her fiancé's participation in her release and obtained a pardon . Grinev is released, he falls on the execution of a man who helped him in the difficult moments of his life.

Of course, such important works are worth reading in full, because the short content tells only about the main points of the story, without revealing the depths of the characters' characters, and only after reading the full version of the story, we can once again appreciate the talent of the great writer.
