The drug 'Buserelin'. Reviews. Indications, side effects

The drug "Buserelin" belongs to the category of antitumor hormones and antagonists of hormones.

The drug is indicated for hormone-dependent prostate cancer in the third and fourth stages (if necessary, slowing the production of testosterone in the testes). With cancer in the female mammary gland with a preserved cycle of menstruation and the presence of receptors of progesterone / estradiol, the drug "Buserelin" is also prescribed. The experts' feedback allows us to conclude that the drug is very effective in hormone-dependent pathologies in the reproductive system associated with hyperestrogenia (relative or absolute). These diseases include, in particular, hyperplastic processes in the endometrium, uterine myoma, endometriosis. The drug "Buserelin" (reviews and comments of reproductive specialists confirm this) should be used to induce ovulation in conjunction with gonadotropins in the treatment of infertility in IVF programs (in vitro fertilization).

The drug is intended for subcutaneous, intramuscular and intranasal (into the nasal cavity) administration.

With hormone-dependent cancer in the prostate gland, the recommended dosage of "Buserelin" (experts' reviews are unanimous in this matter) when administered intramuscularly is 3.75 milligrams once. Injections are carried out every four weeks. The drug can be administered subcutaneously three times a day for 0.5 mg per week. After the patient is transferred to the supporting intranasal application of the drug "Buserelin" (spray). The experts' comments indicate that 0.9-1.2 milligrams per day is sufficient as a supporting dosage. The amount of the drug is recommended to be divided into four divided doses.

In breast cancer, 0.9 mg, divided into three applications, is administered intranasally.

With endometrial hyperplasia, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, intramuscular injections are administered at a dose of 3.75 mg once every four weeks. Duration of use - from four to six weeks. With uterine myoma, the duration of the use of the drug "Buserelin" (doctors' reviews confirm this) is before the operation - three months, with conservative therapy - six months. The use of the drug begins in the first five days of the cycle. Dosage for intranasal use is 0.9 mg per day. Divide the daily dose should be three times. Treatment with this start on the first or second day of the cycle. The duration of use of the spray "Buserelin" - no more than six months (due to the risk of osteoporosis).

The drug is not tolerated for hypersensitivity.

During the treatment, undesirable manifestations may occur. With intranasal administration, probably the occurrence of headaches. The drug can cause sleep disorder, depressive state, mood lability, irritation in the eyes (when using lenses). When using the medication, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, anorexia, a decrease in libido are noted. In addition, impotence may develop, dryness in the vagina, bleeding (menstrual like), ovarian cyst. The undesirable consequences include angioedema, irritation of the nasal mucosa, hot flushes, hives, acne, and increased sweating. In some cases, gynecomastia, demineralization of the bones, swelling of the legs and feet, thrombosis may occur. Probably the development of reactions associated with an increase in testosterone in the blood at the beginning of treatment (bone pain, numbness or tingling in the feet or hands, weakness in the legs).

It is necessary to exclude pregnancy and to cancel oral contraceptives before starting the use of the drug "Buserelin". The first two months of treatment for uterine fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia and endometriosis are recommended for women with barrier contraceptives.

Continuous use of the drug "Buserelin-Long" (the doctors' reviews indicate this) for two to three weeks leads to a decrease in testosterone levels in men to "postcastration value."
