Nasal drops

Even the healthiest person who never seemed to have turned to doctors, at least once in his life, experienced what a runny nose is. Often in such a situation, we urgently buy at the pharmacy the first drops on the nose in hand, without even thinking about the need to consult a doctor.

What is the rhinitis itself? This is inflammation and the release of fluid due to the action of microorganisms on the nasal mucosa. Discharge, enlarged in the bulk of the mucous membrane lead to obstructed nasal breathing. Purchased naphthysine, sanorin, and similar drops in the nose, begin to be used uncontrolled. Well, if the instruction for use is carefully read and the drug is used correctly. But even if all the instructions are followed, long-term use of drops in the nose, repeated use of them leads to a runny nose in a short space again. Expressed medical terminology, the development of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis begins.

This is because the action of virtually all drops is vasoconstrictive. In the beginning, they reduce the secretions and facilitate breathing, but their constant application leads to chronic inflammation.

In order that this does not happen it is better to use soft drops in the nose, which are represented quite widely in pharmacies. You can apply them up to seven days. Use of drops more than three times a day and more than a week is not allowed.

Most of the above applies also to children. Many parents tend to think that if there is a runny nose, you definitely need drops in your nose. Children's preparations for nose cleaning do not always involve instillation. Sometimes it is enough to simply clean the baby's nose with a normal saline solution. If there is an obvious need for instillation, consult a doctor about what is best for your child. It's easy to find a drug and replace the baby with drops in the nose. Children's cleansing preparations similar to Aquamaris are quite suitable for cleaning the spout.

There are many preparations for instillation in the nose. One of them is a drop in the nose of Protargol, which contains about 7% of silver, which makes it anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. In addition, this drug is absolutely harmless and can be used to treat even newborns. At the first symptoms of a common cold it is enough to immediately dip Protargol before going to bed and get up with normal nasal breathing in the morning. Drops in the nose Collargol is similar in its pharmaceutical properties to Protargol, also has silver in its composition and is applied overnight. Collargol is also recommended for existing adenoids.

Existing complex drops in the nose are used for chronic or protracted runny nose, swelling of the nasal mucosa. The composition of complex furacil drops include antimicrobial and antihistamines, which can remove puffiness and constrict vessels. Apply them three times during the day or make a cotton swab in the nasal cavity with these drops for about three minutes. Applying complex drops in the nose, it must be remembered that patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertensive patients should be treated with drops with extreme caution.

It is not superfluous to remind once again that when choosing drops in the nose, carefully read the annotation, paying special attention to contraindications. In addition to getting used to, many common drops in the nose have a number of side effects that can lead to irreversible changes, up to the need for surgical intervention. The use of such drops is especially dangerous in the treatment of cold in young children. Therefore, using vasoconstrictive drugs, closely monitor the baby, especially during sleep, as possible complications (cold extremities, weakness, disruption of coordination) can lead to coma.
