Everyone at least once in his life heard the word "palette knife". What it is? These are thin, easily bending steel plates in the form of knives or blades.

How to draw with a palette knife?

The technique of drawing palette knife is quite different from brushing, and it may seem quite unusual for a beginner. The edge of the scapula from the palette is taken a small amount of paint. Next, it is necessary to apply the lateral part of the palette knife to smear it on the canvas or not force it into it.

What do you need to paint with a palette knife?

It is necessary to take:

• Stretched, previously primed canvas, the size of which is 50 x 40 cm;
• Pruning white cotton material without a speck and pollution;
• A coal pencil;
• Purified turpentine;
• Several types of oil paints: lemon, scarlet cadmium, green (emerald and herbaceous), natural umber, blue ultramarine, titanium white, and also crimson kraplak;
• A couple of pear-shaped palette knives for drawing: a small one, the length of which is 55 cm, and a narrow length of 90 mm.
• Shovel for mixing paints.

Beginning of work

1. Preferably draw on the easel. Arrange it at a distance of several meters from the visual pattern and a little to the right, so that the pineapple could be clearly seen because of it. Take a charcoal pencil and draw a sketch of the fruit and folds of the material. It must be understood that any master, even a novice, will be very helpful to this master class. Mastichin is an object by which it is not very difficult to work.

2. Apply base paints mixed with turpentine on the sheet. To do this, you need a swab of pruning material. Lemon cadmium is designed to draw the top area of the fruit, and for the image of the lower one you need to mix it with scarlet. For the right side of the pineapple a warm brown tint is suitable. It can be made of scarlet and white colors with the addition of umber. To draw the leaves you need a green emerald paint. Soon you will need and palette knives. What is it is known to all artists.

3. Next, you need to put a dark blue color on the canvas - this will be the background. Apply a cotton swab tampon. If you have a background before your eyes, it will be easier for you to evaluate the color of the fruit. Remember this. The dark blue color, connected to the crimson crimson, will help dilute the background shade. Saturated green strokes, as it were, foreshadow the appearance of pineapple leaves.

Generously scoop the bottom of the palette knife with blue paint. Put it on the canvas. Add a few blue strokes to the leaves. Wipe the palette with a cloth and apply a small amount of green grass paint, combined with lemon cadmium, on the fruit. Do it carefully.

5. Then apply a small amount of scarlet and red hues to the pineapple . Colors may seem to you not quite realistic, but there's nothing to worry about. At this stage, you just need to add a little warm color to the picture.

Connect the droplet of crab with lemon cadmium. Then mix them with a green tint that is on the fruit. Apply a small amount of fuchsia-colored ink by combining the white kraplak with scarlet directly on the sheet. Do this carefully. Draw a pattern on the fruit, having spent several scarlet lines with the tip of the scapula.

6. Until now, you, for the most part, smeared the paint with pieces, using a flat part of the palette knife. And now it's time to move on to drawing. Creating a pattern palette knife is a long process, including several stages.

Label the stripes of the geometric pattern, scraping the paint with the edge of the blade. After a while they can be removed, but now you will be guided by them. Try to draw them on the whole pineapple to give it volume.

7. Connect a small amount of crimson crab, lemon cadmium and whitewash to create a calm reddish tint. With the curving edge of a palette knife, draw the edges of the fruit between the strips of its "geometric pattern".

8. Draw all the elements of the picture at the same time. Do not try to refine one detail before returning to the other. At the moment, go to the background and remove the paint with a piece of cloth in a lighter place. This must be done necessarily.

9. Add a little white to the green emerald paint and draw thick, bright stripes with the tip of the palette knife. Do it energetically and confidently. In particular, palette knives are needed for this process. What it is, you now know.

10. From the edge of the scapula, draw the leaves from the opposite side.

11. The fruit is your main object, but the background is not less important, so do not ignore it. Using the underside of the palette knife, the length of which is 55 cm, finish the bright places with the use of various mixtures of whitewash and dark blue.

12. To get warm shadows, connect the blue kraplak with scarlet. And what about the cold ones? For them, you need to connect the blue color with the burnt umber.
