Those same oil paints that conquered the soul of the artist

Especially popular among experienced artists are oil paints: art works are often written by them to save the creation for ages. In their composition is necessarily present linseed oil - a film-forming substance based on vegetable oil.

Oil paints are qualitative only if they contain higher varieties of drying oil. Concerning other varieties of coloring substances, they have a low price. On this their advantages do not end: when applied, the oil paints are transformed into an environmentally friendly coating. For painting is very convenient linseed linseed oil, because with its help the paint form a waterproof film. In order to apply paint to the canvas, it is necessary to make sure that the surface is free of excess impurities and the primer is well dried. In the event that the unheated paint was on the skin, it can easily be removed with a piece of cloth soaked in vegetable oil. It is best to paint with gloves or use specially designed pastes.

It is important to remember that oil paints should be stored, tightly closing the lid, in dry and dark places: so they will retain their properties longer. In order to dilute too thick paint, you need to use a special solvent, turpentine or white spirit. You can apply oil paints in any way: using any brush or roller. Most often for drawing use a brush from a rigid bristle of the small size.

At room temperature, the paints dry for at least 24 hours: they usually retain their plasticity from two to three days. If the basis for the picture was a wood product, then after the solidification of the paint, evaporation from the surface of the substrate will not be missed. When choosing paints, you need to clarify the composition, because in oil enamels it is similar, but in it, in addition to drying oil, there are chemical film-forming substances. Enamels dry much faster than oil paints, so it is extremely difficult to use them for painting.

The optimum thickness of the paint layer is from 1 mm to 0.5 cm. It is necessary to have sufficient drawing skills, so that too thick a layer of paint does not spoil the work. A similar error will affect the longevity of the work, leading to its rapid destruction. The process of writing a picture is recommended to limit time: create until the oil paints on the canvas begin to lose their original consistency.

To avoid the formation of a dull layer on the surface, the period from the beginning of the solidification of the paints to their final solidification should be passed. Adjustments are best made after the first coat of paint has dried completely. In case the paints only dried up, but did not harden, the newly applied paint layer withered dim, because the lower layer would draw oil out of it, depriving it of the necessary binder. This can lead to the appearance of cracks and undesirable voids: simultaneous drying of the two layers will occur with different intensities.

Remember that the undeniable advantage of artistic oil paints is resistance to moisture and to various chemical interactions, so oil paints can not change their appearance for years.
