The idler VAZ 2114: diagnostics and replacement by own hands

What is the VAZ 2114 idle speed sensor, what is it for and what faults are most common, every car owner of this brand should know. A modern car is a set of a set of sensors that measure various parameters - crankshaft position, speed, ramp pressure, etc. All signals are fed to the microcontroller control unit and processed. According to the built-in algorithm, the controller decides what to do: turn on the fuel pump or turn it off, apply power to the injectors, idle regulator, or stop the washing.

What does РХХ in the system do?

The correct name for this device is not a sensor, but a controller. After all, by definition, a sensor is a measuring device that converts a physical quantity into an electrical signal. But when the idle sensor is replaced , it can be seen that it does not measure anything. This is a conventional stepping motor. It sets in motion a small needle that closes the air supply or opens it.

Let's say you turned on the ignition. At this moment, the voltage is applied to the winding PXX. The stepper motor starts to rotate, the stem reaches its end position and returns to its original state. This is the initial, pre-start, calibration - it is always done as soon as the ignition is switched on. When the engine is started, the regulator rod is fully extended, the air passage is closed. The minimum required amount of air passes through the bypass channel. When opening the throttle valve , the air supply is much larger, the VAZ 2114 idle speed sensor is excluded from the air supply circuit.

Have you noticed how a non-heated injector engine works in winter? Constantly maintained a certain engine speed crankshaft. This is only due to the idle speed regulator. It opens and closes the bypass channel, thereby regulating the quality of the fuel mixture. Similarly, the lever "suction" in the carburetor engines. During the operation of the car, the following errors may appear, the culprit of which is RXX:

  1. 0507 - excessively high crankshaft speed at XX.
  2. 0506 - excessively low crankshaft speed at XX.
  3. 0505 - breakage of RXH.

At the same time, during engine speed switching, the engine may stall. Reduces the frequency of rotation of the crankshaft with the inclusion of additional equipment - a clear sign of failure of the regulator.

Replacement of RHX by one's own hands

To replace it, you need to know where there is an idle sensor on the car VAZ 2114. And you can find it in the throttle area: this is where you install this device. For replacement, you will need one tool - a Phillips screwdriver. Twist out the two bolts that secure the RXX housing to the throttle assembly. Carefully remove it and disconnect the plug. It is advisable to make sure that the old one has become unusable before installing a new regulator. It will also be useful to clean the channels, for this purpose, get a special spray. The VAZ 2114 idle speed sensor is installed in reverse order.

Diagnosis of breakdowns

To make sure that the idle speed regulator is not subject to recovery, it is necessary to carry out a couple of procedures. First, with a multimeter check the resistance of the windings. If there is a cliff, it will immediately become clear. Secondly, remove the regulator and connect the plug to it. Gently hold the stock with your finger, but do not press it. When the ignition is switched on, the VAZ 2114 idle speed sensor will start. The rod will move and stop in a certain position. After the ignition is turned off, it is fully extended (if it was in the car, the bypass channel would be completely closed).
