How and for what it is necessary to regulate idling of the engine

In the operation of each car there are moments in which the engine receives no load other than friction forces, but they are present directly in it, and therefore, are part of it. Avoidance of these forces uses different lubricants, but still they remain.

Such work of the engine was called "idling". At this time, the gearbox is engaged in gearing with the primary shaft, so the crankshaft rotation is not transmitted to the wheels. But do not think that the car must always stand, so that the unit under the hood was idling. Many drivers use the so-called roll-up to save fuel. For example, before the turn left a hundred meters, and the speed is high, then you can turn on neutral transmission and "dodge" by inertia. On the one hand - it's economical, on the other - you could not accelerate to such a speed, which, perhaps, took even more gasoline or other fuel that uses the engine of the car.

Idling plays an important role in operation, since in this mode the engine "lives" a significant part of the time. This means that before we get out of the way, we turn on the gear, it takes some time. For one inclusion, it is small, but if you count all the gear changes per day, per week, month, year ... The figure is quite impressive.

In fact, idling the engine can tell about its condition. First of all, if idling floats, it means that some system is working incorrectly, not as it should. For example, you should think about adjusting the carburetor or checking the electronic control unit. In addition, there may be problems with the ignition, which is fairly easy to verify. In this case, you just need to make sure the correct timing of the ignition, as well as in the normal clearance. If everything is in order, then you can go further. Idling may be impaired due to malfunction of the fuel pump, especially high pressure. In this case, it will be pumped, but not enough, which leads to unstable work with interruptions. Also it is necessary to make sure of the tightness of the entire fuel system, since air ingress into it is fraught with the same consequences.

In addition to the fact that the engine should work "without assistance," idling on the warmed-up engine should not exceed 900-1000 rpm, which is an average figure, for some engines it is lower. If idling is observed, but it begins to "float" when it drops to this rate, it is worthwhile to think about the state of the piston group. First of all, about the piston rings. Their wear, as a rule, is accompanied by increased fuel consumption, as well as a serious drop in power at low revs. In addition, the piston rings wear the same, and therefore, together with the compression wear and oil removable, which leads to an increase in oil consumption. This can be seen if you periodically check the oil level in the engine.

The reason for this check should be the blue smoke from the exhaust pipe, which is impossible to miss. In conclusion, it should be said that idling is a serious work that should be maintained in a proper condition, like other car systems.
