How to make a simple and beautiful pattern - geometric ornament

As you know, there are different types of ornaments. They are plant, subject, landscape, astral, floral, fantastic, calligraphic, etc. It all depends on which elements the pattern is made of. Geometric consists of simple figures - a circle, a square, rectangles, triangles. This is the most common and easy to build option. To do it, it is enough to use stencils or drawing tools and understand the pattern of construction.

Geometric ornaments and patterns: species

The location and nature of the composition is always related to the shape of the object to which the drawing is applied. On this basis, there are such types of ornaments from the figures:

  • Tape;
  • reticulate;
  • Centric or rosette.

The first is constructed in the form of a straight or curved strip running along the center or edge of the product. So make out friezes, borders. In the second case, the entire decorated surface is filled with a pattern. In the third variant, the individual elements are located inside the square, circle, diamond, rectangle, which are in the center of the object to be decorated.

Areas of application of ornament

Geometric patterns on the dishes have been used since ancient times. This was the easiest way to decorate a jug or pot. The usual sticks used to make circular grooves in the surface, lines.

With the development of technology, geometric ornaments began to be used in architecture, clothing. Now they are often used to decorate textile products, scarves, bed linens, carpets, as well as in printing when printing books, wallpaper, for decorating furniture, decoration materials (ceramic and ceiling tiles, laminate, linoleum, etc.).

Important concepts

Any pattern, geometric, floral, has a certain motive and rapport. It is necessary to clearly understand what both mean. The first is the main element of the ornament. It can be simple, consisting of one form with a single contour, or complex, which involves the presence of several constituent parts. A motif can be a stylized flower, leaf, star, different types of polygons, a star consisting of triangles. Rapport is a collection of motives or their group and the distance to the next.

Methods of constructing an ornament

Each pattern, geometric, floral or any other, represents a certain rhythm, that is, repetition, alternation of certain elements. As a motive, one can take an isosceles triangle. Repeat it horizontally without gaps, then you will get a kind of denticles, at the same distance or alternating the length of space between the elements in a certain combination. The type of ribbon ornaments will vary. The same can be done vertically.

To create a mesh pattern, it is enough to repeat the line from triangles in the first step several times in a column. Each module can be either one under another, or with an offset. Two different horizontal rows alternate according to a certain pattern, through one, two, etc.

Original decors are obtained with a combination of different types of mirroring. Horizontal or vertical lines, columns or only their parts in a certain combination are reflected.

Centric geometric patterns and patterns are also easy to obtain. It is sufficient to select a point of rotation at one end of the element, inside or outside and around it, to move the triangle by a certain number of degrees.

How to make an ornament to a newbie

Simple geometric patterns to perform very easily. The basis is a set of figures, arranged, for example, in a square. This module is repeated many times over any of the above patterns.

The easiest and most fascinating way to develop a pattern, geometric, floral or any other is to use a graphical editor on your computer. A program that works with vector graphics is suitable, which means just simple geometric shapes that have a contour and a fill. Such patterns can be obtained in the editor of Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator.

The algorithm will be as follows:

  1. From the geometric figures make up the base element.
  2. Perform the operation of grouping the parts.
  3. Copy the module.
  4. Insert the desired number of times.
  5. Apply the function of distribution of all selected fragments at a certain distance. The string is ready.
  6. Group it the same way as the module itself at the beginning.
  7. Try different combinations of reflections, repetitions. You can even rotate around a circle with different angles of rotation.

Combinations will get a lot. Choose the best, print or use for any other purpose. By the way, you can use this image as a stencil: circumnavigate the resulting pattern through the glass on paper, and then use for painting the fabric, decor of handmade greeting cards, embroidery, stained glass, carvings and any other technique of artistic craftsmanship.

Building on cells

Patterns from geometric shapes are easy to make on the grid. You can use a conventional notebook sheet or pre-delineate with thin cell lines of any size on the sheet. Already on them contours are outlined or figures are drawn in color. The size of parts and gaps can be easily determined by counting the cells.

So, you saw how geometric ornaments and patterns are built. You can choose any of the above methods and try to execute some version yourself. If you do this task on the computer, you will get a huge number of options. This occupation is very exciting, because it is difficult even beforehand to guess what the result will be a complex decor from a simple element.
