Loch silver

Loch silver is a deciduous shrub or small tree whose maximum height is four meters. Numerous gray-brown branches form a wide sprawling crown. The main ornament of the plant - silver leaves, reaching 10 cm in length, lanceolate oblong form. Leaves of this species are dense leathery, with brownish scales on the underside.

In May the silver loch is covered with fragrant inflorescences collected in small groups of three flowers that are in the axils of the leaves and have a silvery shade on the outside and yellow from the inside. Effective abundant flowering lasts up to four weeks, with the plant emanating honey with a touch of sea-buckthorn aroma, massively attracting insects.

In place of flowers come oval or spherical fruits, having a diameter of 1 cm, which are thickly covered with silver scales with mealy, sweet, slightly dry flesh. Thanks to its fruits, silvery silver lion got the second name - "silvery berry".

The shrub very slowly develops, and due to lateral growth in breadth it grows much more actively than in height. The foliage does not lose its color until November and remains on the tree for a long time. When the leaves fall, silvery large fruits become an ornament of the empty branches.

Silvery Loch is a light-loving plant, it develops better in well-lit places. This species is the most frost-hardy of all the genus species, but it is most susceptible to prolonged droughts. Shrub prefers sandy soil, but other soil is also suitable for it.

In urban landscaping, the great advantage of silver fossa is its resistance to smoke and dust, which makes it possible to plant the plant in the streets with a large number of cars.

Trees tolerate transplants well. You can safely transplant even adult specimens. Loch silvery reacts well to pruning. The plant does not need additional fertilizing, since it is undemanding to soil fertility, in addition, it refers to species that in themselves improve the soil where they grow.

Their unique shape, delicious fruits and leaves allow the use of the plant in the dominant role in the creation of color spots. Loch silvery looks interesting in contrasting compositions, when it is located next to the bushes, the foliage of which is red, golden or darker in color. Perfectly combines silver fir with coniferous crops and is used as a background for perennial plants with variegated foliage.

Trees are used to create groves and anchor slopes. Thanks to controlled slow growth, plants can be used to plant small gardens.
