Pituitary. The tumor can be cured!

A pituitary gland is called the endocrine gland located deep in the brain, responsible for the activity of other endocrine glands. It is localized in the Turkish saddle, located in the sphenoid bone. It is from the hypophysis of envy timely growth, maturation of organs, control of their functions.

The enlarged pituitary gland provokes inadequate behavior caused by hormonal failures. Recent studies have shown that, for example, in male homosexuals, the pituitary gland is several times increased. Therefore, the desire of a man to a man should be considered not dissoluteness, but a serious deviation from the norm.

At the age of 30-40 years, men and women can develop a pituitary tumor. Often these are benign, less often malignant neoplasms of the anterior or posterior lobe to which the pituitary gland is exposed. A tumor can be formed for various reasons, many of which have not yet been established. Of the known most commonly encountered are:

• Effects on the fetus during pregnancy

• Head injuries

• Sinusitis

• Genetic predisposition (not accurate)

When a trauma or infection damages the pituitary gland, the tumor, depending on the location of the dislocation, can be located in its anterior (called adenohypophysis) or posterior (neurohypophysis) part. Neoplasms can extend beyond the Turkish saddle or remain within its borders.

According to the structure of neoplasms to which the pituitary gland is exposed, the tumor can be malignant or benign. By its functionality, hormonally inactive (insidentalom) or active. The latter are more common.

Hormonal active tumors produce an inappropriate amount of hormones that affect the growth or, on the contrary, depression, of various organs or body structures.

For example, there may be such deviations:

• central hypothyroidism - abnormal thyroid function

• acromegaly, in which the individual parts of the body increase greatly in size

• gigantism - increased proportional growth of children, exceeding in many times all the norms

• Cushing's disease, in which excessive production of cortisone in the adrenal cortex is observed.

In addition to these diseases, a very wide spectrum of deviations is possible.

If the pituitary gland, whose tumor is diagnosed, is not treated, the prognosis may be most unfavorable.

To diagnose an enlarged pituitary gland or its tumor, in addition to visual and ophthalmological examination, the following are recommended:

• Urine and blood tests for the number of hormones. It allows to establish the presence of a tumor, its variety

• X-ray of the skull, magnetic resonance imaging of the head, computed tomography. Allow to visually observe the tumor, its size, changes in the bones of the skull, other abnormalities

• angiography, in which the vessels of the brain are examined. With its help you can see the displacement of the carotid artery, the presence of an aneurysm.

• Studies of cerebrospinal fluid. Determines the level of proteins.

Treatment of the pituitary gland can be surgical, medicinal or radiation. The specific treatment is determined by a neurosurgeon or endocrinologist depending on the type of tumor, the location of its localization.

The most effective method is the removal of the pituitary gland or part of it. Depending on the size of the tumor and the location of its placement, the operation can be low-traumatic, carried out with the help of optical instruments, or classical. This operation is performed through resection of the sphenoid bone.

Any surgical intervention is usually supplemented with radiation and hormone replacement therapy.

In addition, an alternative treatment for the pituitary gland has been developed, which involves deep freezing of the tumor with a special probe that is inserted through the skull into the pituitary gland. This method is more effective than others in the treatment of, for example, Parkinson's disease.
