Architectural ensemble

The building of the theater is located in the center of the city, surrounded by a lime alley. From the main street of Kirov to it and the adjoining square is a chain of fountains. In 1958, instead of the destroyed in the war years, a new building was built, in which the Kaluga Drama Theater is located to this day. History of the creation of theater

In the second half of the XVIII century, the passion for stage art was captured by the Russian upper world. The Governor-General M.N. In 1777, Krechetnikov founded the Kaluga Drama Theater. In a wave of revolutionary enthusiasm, cultural life is reviving. Modern Kaluga Regional Drama Theater

From 1997 to 2014, Alexander Pletnev occupied the post of the main director. During the most difficult state reforms and financial crises, the theater under his leadership overcame the period of post-perestroika revival of culture and art. A lot of innovative ideas, unique developments and interesting performances by A. Pletnev put the stage skills in the Kaluga Drama Theater at the highest level.

Since 1997, an experiment was set: a course of students of RATI-GITIS was recruited. Young actors of the first release play in the KDT and on other stages of Russia. A successful venture was continued and several more student streams were recruited - the Kaluga course of the St. Shchukin.

From 2000 to the present moment the director is Alexander Anatolievich Krivovichev. Thanks to his efforts, the life of the theater revived, the material and technical support of the performances improved, the performances of the leading actors were held, the troupe took prizes at the shows, competitions and festivals.

Today on the Kaluga stage are real masters: People's Artists of Russia Logvinovsky VS and Pakhomenko MA, as well as honored artists of Russia Efremenko NV, Kornyushin SP, Kremneva LA, Kuznetsov M. Association of the oldest theaters in Russia

This public association was created on the initiative of AA Krivovichev. 32 creative teams became its members. The State Academic Maly Theater, Alexandrinsky from St. Petersburg, actors from Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Penza, Tula, Voronezh took part in the festivals of the association. The goal of creating a community of theaters is to preserve the Russian theater school and to increase the skill of provincial troupes through cooperation with Moscow colleagues.

Festivals of the association were held in Kaluga in 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2013. Creative collectives from all over the country send their best representatives to this forum.
