"Kaloshi Happiness": a brief summary. Andersen, "Kaloshi Happiness"

Andersen's Tale of "Kaloshi Happiness" is one of the author's most ironic works. In it, he talks about what will happen if any reckless desire of a person starts right there. In a playful manner, the writer sets out fantastic events that can happen to people if they put on galoshes of happiness. A brief outline of this funny tale will be outlined in this article.

How did it all start?

So, the work takes us to Copenhagen, to the East Street, which is located next to the Royal Square. In one house many guests gathered, who had fun. Some of them sat down to play cards, some of them occupied leisure time with an interesting conversation. Its meaning boiled down to the fact that in the Middle Ages, life was much better than at the present time. Especially on this insisted adviser Justice Knap. He was so eloquent that the hostess of the house with him immediately agreed. A certain Esther who published an article in the "Almanach" about the fact that the modern era is still above the Middle Ages was subjected to ruthless criticism. During a heated argument, the interlocutors did not notice the appearance of two ladies in the front. So begins the fairy tale "Kaloshi Happiness", a summary of which is given in this article.

Two fairies

So, in the front, where there were galoshes, hats and umbrellas guests, there were two unknown women. They looked modest, but manners, appearance and unusual cut of clothes gave out to them not mere mortals. So it was. One of the ladies - the old one - was a fairy of Sorrows and preferred to do everything herself, because she did not trust others. Another - young - was an assistant fairy of happiness and was fun and cheerful. She had a birthday today, and she decided in honor of this holiday to give people something special. The girl brought with her galoshes of happiness, which could transfer the person who put them on, in any era that he only wants, and thereby make him happy. The Fairy of Sorrows suggested that such an unusual gift would rather make a mortal the most unhappy on earth. The ladies disappeared. About their arrival, they reminded only the galoshes of happiness that remained in the hallway. The summary of the tale further narrates about the fate of adviser Knap, who put on magic shoes.

What happened to Justice Adviser Knap?

As we already know, the adviser really wanted to get into the Middle Ages. Therefore, leaving in galoshes from a hospitable house, he immediately moved to the era of King Hans. Knap's legs were drowned in impassable mud, as the streets were not paved in those days. The amazed adviser saw people in medieval costumes and heard an unfamiliar speech. He met an unusual procession consisting of the drummers ahead and the followers with crossbows and bows, and found out that it was an escort of the Bishop of Zealand. Reflecting on why the clergyman should start a similar masquerade, the adviser reached the area of the High Cape, but he could not find the bridge leading to the Palace Square. Two guys offered the adviser to cross to that shore by boat. The man refused. The reality seemed to him all the more disgusting: the dirt, the lack of streetlights and the stone porch made his existence unbearable. He was back on New Royal Square to look for a cab, but found on this place a spacious meadow, crossed by an unknown channel. Then Knap went to the East Street. Under the light of the moon he could see the ancient buildings covered with straw. Eventually the poor counselor had to go into the house where the light was still burning, and find himself in the strangest company in his life. Knap found himself in a tavern filled with people who listened with amazement at his every word. The adviser decided to slip away from his interlocutors, hid under the table and began to creep away to the exit, but he was caught by his feet. Fortunately, Knapa immediately fell off the galoshes of happiness. The summary of the work takes us after the new owner of the ill-fated footwear. But Knap again appeared in his era. And to the end of the days he thanked fate for not living in the Middle Ages.

The desire of the night watchman

This man found the galoshes of happiness on the street. He decided that the shoes belonged to a brave lieutenant who lives at the top. Since the time was later, the watchman decided to return them in the morning, but for now he tried on the galoshes himself. They fit him right. The watchman thought about how the military man is happily living. The lieutenant does not disturb cares, he does not have a wife and children. Every day he goes to the guests. The man decided that he would become the happiest person on earth, change places with the military. Above this naive dream, the wise Andersen laughed in his tale. Kaloshi's happiness immediately made the night watchman a lieutenant.

Lieutenant's care

Being in the guise of a military man, the watchman found himself standing in front of the window and reading poems about love, written on pink paper, composed by the lieutenant himself. In them the man narrates about his bitter destiny. Being a poor man, he could not marry the one he worshiped. All his capital was beautiful tales, which he told his beloved. But the lieutenant's eloquence could not subdue the girl's heart. The unfortunate lover looked with longing at the street, cursed fate and envied the night guard, who did not know his worries. Thinking that a man with a close family is much happier than him, the officer from the heart wanted to become a watchman. Of course, his desire immediately came true, because on the feet of the military were the galoshes of happiness. A brief stay in the lieutenant's skin set the man in a different way. He finally realized how lucky he was. But now he was overcome by other dreams.

Flight to the stars

The night watchman stared at the night sky, dotted with bright stars. It seemed to him that a stay among the stars and the moon would make him happy. The man dreamed, a stick with a star-shaped tip fell out of his hands and he began to peck with his nose. The casual passer-by asked the watchman, which is the hour, and saw how the body of a man waking awake stretched all the way on the sidewalk. Everyone decided that the guard had died. His lifeless body was brought to the hospital. And then the wily Andersen took pity on his hero. The Kaloshs of happiness were removed from the watchman in the first place, and he instantly came to life. The man with horror remembered the last few hours of his life and assured that even for two brands could not bear such nightmares again. The guard was discharged on the same day, and the magic galoshes were left in the hospital.

Adventure of the medic in the hospital grill

The tale of "Kaloshi Happiness", the summary of which is proposed in this article, brings us to the territory of the main city hospital in Copenhagen. In the times described by Andersen, it was separated from the street by a fence of iron rods. The thin practitioners squeezed through them, when they tried to escape to the city at an inopportune time. To squeeze his head through the bars of the lattice was the most difficult, so the big-headed physicians had a hard time. The hero of the story, which will be described below, had a big head in the truest sense of the word. This young medic was going to run to the city for a quarter of an hour on urgent business. In order not to disturb the gatekeeper, he decided to make his way through the bars. Seeing in the vestibule the galoshes forgotten by the watchman, the young man considered that in such damp weather they would come in handy and put them on. Once in front of the bars, the medic became agitated. He has never had to climb through it yet. The guy was only thinking about how to stick his big head through the bars. As soon as he mentally wanted this, his head immediately found himself on the other side of the fence. Caloshes of happiness fulfilled the desire of the young man. However, the guy's body was too fat to follow his head. The doctor was in a terrible situation. Stuck inside the fence, he only dreamed of getting out of his trap. Afraid that he would have to stand this way until the morning and wait for a crowd of mocking onlookers to gather around him, the guy wholeheartedly wished himself to get out of the damned lattice. Of course, his desire was immediately realized.

Adventures of the medic in the bath

But on this misadventure the medics did not end. Feeling bad, he decided that he had caught a cold and needed treatment. The best way to restore health to him seemed to be a Russian bath, and the guy wanted to find herself in it. Naturally, he immediately found himself in a therma, on the uppermost shelf, fully dressed and with galoshes on his legs. Top of it was hot water. The young man rushed to take a shower in horror. On the way, he frightened his own kind of bath-house to death. Returning home, the medic decided that he had gone mad. He immediately placed himself an impressive patch with Spanish flies on his neck, and the second on his back. In the morning, the young man's back swelled with blood. This is all that the physician has bestowed on the galoshes of happiness.

The summary of each chapter of the wonderful fairy tale by Andersen is presented in this article. Below we will talk about what happened to the clerk of the police station who put on magic galoshes.

As a clerk became a poet

The night watchman familiar to us remembered about the forgotten shoes, took her from the hospital and took him to the police station. There they were mistakenly put on by a young clerk. In wonderful shoes he wanted to walk around Frederiksberg. Having got out of the stuffy office to fresh air, the young man began to look around and saw the familiar poet. He went on a trip for the whole summer. The clerk envied the freedom of his friend and himself wanted to become a poet. The world around him suddenly seemed to him painted in rainbow colors. The young man noticed how fresh and beautiful around. He admired the bizarre clouds above his head. The clerk's heart was squeezed with sweet excitement. In his pocket, he found not familiar clerical protocols, but some manuscripts. Automatically tearing off a daisy, the guy admired her. A whole story came to him immediately. He thought that the light awarded the flower beauty, and the air gave her life. Obscured by unusual sensations, the clerk saw a singing bird. It immediately occurred to him that for his complete happiness he lacked the wonderful ability to fly. This careless idea was immediately embodied in reality galoshes of happiness. Andersen's tale from this moment is not about a man, but about a little bird.

Lark Adventures

So, the folds and sleeves of the clerk's coat turned into wings and covered with feathers, and the galoshes became black claws. The man decided that all this was an amazing dream. The lark, in which he reincarnated, first flew to the branch and sang. Then he moved to the ground and began to gaily peck flexible grass. Suddenly it seemed to him that a huge blanket had been thrown at him. In fact, a naughty boy threw a cap over him. Catching the lark in this way, he sold it to two schoolchildren. They brought the bird to a beautifully furnished room and put it in a cage. The lark was in the company of two other birds. One of them, a large green parrot, was extremely proud of her mind. Still would! After all, she was able to pronounce a human phrase, which sometimes sounded very comical: "No, we are people!". Another - a canary - constantly sang songs about the beauty of her native land and free life. Fortunately, people forgot to lock up the cage, and the lark managed to get out. Leaving the room, he almost fell into the clutches of a terrible cat. The clerk froze with fear, fled out of the window and flew through the streets for a long time until he found a house that seemed familiar to him. He flew into the window of his own room, sat down on the table and automatically uttered the parrot's favorite words: "No, we are people!". The lark immediately turned into a man. It seemed to the man that he accidentally fell asleep on the table. This is how he treated the police writer Anderson in his fairy tale. Caloshes of happiness played a funny joke with a dreamy youth.

Travel of a student-philosopher

In the morning the clerk was visited by his roommate. It was a student-philosopher. He came to ask for galoshes to go down to the garden and smoke a pipe. So the young man had to test the magic shoes on himself. He went out into the garden, started walking along the path and heard the horn of the postal coach. The student suddenly wanted to travel. He always dreamed of visiting Switzerland and Italy. All the details of what the young man has suffered while traveling through Europe can not convey a brief retelling. Kaloshi's happiness first brought the student into a tight stagecoach, where he was in the company of eight other passengers driving through the picturesque places of harsh Switzerland. Then the young man wanted to be on the other side of the Alps, and he immediately found himself in Italy. However, the sunny country seemed to him unusually unfriendly. In the way of the travelers, insects bites mercilessly. Nature, however, was magnificent here. The play of colors at sunset amazed imagination. However, in the evening, the travelers penetrated the piercing cold. And the hotel, in which the traveler had a chance to spend the night, was simply awful: the floor was made of bricks in the hollows, the bats under the ceiling, the intolerable stench in the rooms. Lunch, proposed by the hostess, was disgusting. Putnikam had to barricade the door with suitcases and set the sentry. The lot fell on the poor student-philosopher. The unbearable heat, mosquitoes and groans of beggars outside the window drove the guy to the point that he wanted to fall asleep forever. The next moment he found himself at home in a black coffin. Such a turn of the plot was invented by the genius G.H. Andersen. Kaloshi's happiness was realized and this careless desire.

The final

From this ironic tale you can make many instructive conclusions. On many things I wanted to tell in this work Andersen. "Kaloshi of Happiness" (the summary of the work is given in this article) is a story about how unreasonable and meaningless human desires are.

Familiar witches - a fairy of Sorrows and a messenger of Happiness - appeared in the student's home at the time of his sudden death. They wondered whether the extraordinary shoes brought people much happiness. Fairy of Sorrows took pity on the young man, took off his galoshes and disappeared with them. Perhaps she decided that she would need these magical items. The student woke up, got up and began to live his old life.

"Kaloshi Happiness" - a summary

In reduction, this work loses its original charm. The great writer has his own unique style of presentation, which makes his fairy tales truly magical. You can enjoy this extraordinary story only by reading it in the original. Therefore, the author of this article recommends everyone to open a book of fairy tales, written by Andersen himself. "Kaloshi Happiness" (the summary of this work will help readers to take the first step in this direction) - a fairy tale that everyone should read.
