How to make a greenhouse for cucumbers with your own hands

Wanting to get an early harvest of cucumbers or grow them all year round, many are interested in how to build a greenhouse. If we talk not about the simple shelter of seeded film, but about a large stationary greenhouse, then it can later be adapted to growing different vegetables or just greenery. The obtained crop can be used for itself or put on the market.

There is a certain classification of greenhouses: they can be one- or two-slope, ground or in-depth. The first version of the greenhouse is considered more practical. A single-pitched deep greenhouse for cucumbers with their own hands is made in this way: a pit is excavated, boxes (a so-called strapping) and frames are being installed. Its dimensions can be any, but the strapping is done around the perimeter of the dug out, while the northern part of the greenhouse is made no less than 10 cm above the southern one. This will ensure full protection against frost, good lighting and water flow.

The greenhouse for cucumbers with their own hands is made of beams or boards 4 cm thick, although thicker versions are also suitable. To strengthen the structure under the walls built of wood bricks are laid. Only after full installation of the box around the entire perimeter of the future greenhouse on it is mounted frame. It should be provided with windows with the possibility of fixing them in the open position. When all the preparatory work is completed, the film is stretched onto the frame or polycarbonate sheets are attached. With warming, the heater from the frames is removed, but the construction itself is not disassembled, the whole remains.

If you make such a greenhouse for cucumbers with your own hands, then know that it can even be heated. In this case, you do not have to conduct pipes with heating in it. The optimal option will be the use of organic fuel: the bottom of the indentation is covered with straw or leaves, a layer of horse manure is laid on top , and only then the soil. While rotting, this natural fertilizer gives off heat, so a suitable microclimate is created for the shoots.

But you can also heat the created greenhouse for cucumbers with your own hands and an electric cable. It is laid on a layer of sand and covered with earth. An important condition for such heating is the proximity of the greenhouse to the house and the possibility of including the cord directly into the outlet, without using several carry-over that will lie directly in the garden. In this case it is important to monitor not only the temperature, but also the humidity in the greenhouse: this method quickly dries the earth.

On average, there should be about 25-30 degrees of heat inside the hotbed, in cooler temperatures of at least 20 degrees, it is perfectly acceptable if the temperature drops to 16 degrees at night. But the humidity of both soil and air must be constantly high: this must be followed.

But there are also more simple options for how to make a hotbed yourself. You can simply cover the seeds in the ground with a film, and after the appearance of the first shoots of cucumbers make a dome for each bush so that it reliably closes from the cold, but does not limit the growth of the cucumber. But the planting of seeds in this case should start only when the risk of severe frost on the soil will finally pass.
