You can start with definitions and names. The diesel engine is a mechanical device based on a classic piston engine, which operates on diesel fuel. The main difference of such an aggregate from the usual, gasoline one is the way of preparation of the air-fuel mixture, feeding the mixture into the cylinder and its ignition.

In a traditional gasoline engine, fuel is combined with air before it enters the cylinder and is ignited by a spark plug. The diesel engine works on a different principle. Here, air is first supplied, then the air is compressed under pressure. After that, the air is heated to temperatures at which the fuel can ignite on its own. Diesel is injected into the cylinders through the nozzles under serious pressure. However, this is not all the differences. The main advantage is the increased efficiency of such motors.

Theories of Rudolf Diesel

When the scientist spent days and nights developing his work - a "rational heat engine", which dates back to 1890, he tried to make two big discoveries at once. Since in the cylinders the mixture is compressed, it has significantly improved the efficiency of the process of converting heat energy to mechanical. Also there was no need for candles for ignition, because then they were difficult to get.

The first diesel

The first engine, which could work normally, was created in 1897. He immediately showed all his pluses. The efficiency of the new engine was significantly higher than all gasoline units of that time. Then, in 1903, the first ship was equipped with diesel engines, in 1912 - the locomotive, in 1922 - the tractor. Then it was installed on trucks and cars. Logically after all this, a diesel motorcycle was to appear, but no.

"Solar" and a motorcycle

The economy of such engines has become unprofitable. The capacity from a unit of volume turned out to be 1.5 times lower, in contrast to gasoline units. And for small volumes, u was completely equal to almost zero. In addition, the diesel does not welcome high revs.

After all, the mixture does not completely burn out in the cylinder. Engineers thought of somehow developing and putting a diesel engine on a motorcycle, but a large volume was needed, difficulties arose when trying to get a huge car. However, this did not stop enthusiasts. Thanks to such people, unrealistic ideas become reality.

Today, such vehicles are nothing but exotic. They are produced a little around the world, but there is no production on an industrial scale. But thanks to the craftsmen and enthusiasts, in some places interesting machines appear, collected completely by hand.

To install such a motor in the construction of a two-wheeled iron friend is not so simple. To connect the engine to the gearbox, the engineer had to cut the frame, and then make it longer by 38 mm. The flywheel, which was installed on the Czech unit as standard, did not fit, so the creator of the construction planted the flywheel MT, now it works in tandem with the native. To the engine was able to work properly with the gearbox, it was necessary to sharpen the adapter from aluminum. Now this adapter connects the motor and the box.

Design Features

The main broadcast was the same as it was. However, the box required rework. The designer replaced the fourth gear, or rather moved the gears in the box. As a result, after rework, the gear ratio became smaller, now it is 0.8. What for? The diesel engine develops only 2200 rpm.

With such a gearbox motor works fine. Such a motorcycle pulls under any conditions, even loaded. On the asphalt the car goes at a speed of up to 70 km / h. This is normal, because it was not created for racing.

Economical

In this regard, everything turned out. Two-stroke engines are characterized by increased consumption, but this diesel motorcycle has reduced its appetite by half. Now the standard consumption for it is 3.5 l / 100 km.

Further, since the engine is large enough, it was necessary to install a smaller fuel tank. Another tank was also installed in the stroller. The given stock of fuel to a motorcycle will suffice on 700 km. That's good enough.

As for the dynamic characteristics, everything here is also quite normal. Not quickly, but confidently the car can pick up speed up to 90 km / h. Since the cooling of the units is forced, it will never overheat. And this is especially true if the motorcycle is loaded with different luggage and tools, and even the ride is off-road.

The process of rework took 4 years. However, the clean time for the alteration itself is only 4 months. It was simply done in free time, after work.

So, we see that it is possible to make an economical diesel motorcycle "Dnepr" by means of small investments and alterations easily and at ease.

Those who love two-wheeled horses with powerful engines will be able to create them on their own. Many enthusiasts and just amateurs sometimes do things in their garages that many are simply amazed. Today's bikers will be able to give odds to any engineer. These people know the car before each bolt. Some motorcycles are assembled completely by hand. Moreover, custom mototechnics is the fruit of numerous alterations and transformations. Diesel motorcycle "Ural" can be made from the usual "Ural" by analogy with "Dnepr". Diesel "Java"

Although the diesel engine for the Dnepr motorcycle was economical, the enthusiast and designer knew perfectly well that there was no limit to perfection. He decided to install a more serious, four-stroke engine in the frame of "Java". For these purposes, a domestic cylinder diesel with direct injection of SN-6D was used. The economy is justified by a significant loss of capacity. The torque is about 2 times lower. However, it is issued at revolutions, which are much smaller than the original ones. Here the diesel motorcycle will give odds to the standard gasoline "Java".

The engine CH-6D crankshaft longitudinal, so to force it to work with a box of a motorcycle, it was necessary to do a great job.

Again, the rear end of the motorcycle was redesigned. The car got a new gearbox, a cardan transmission, a pendulum, and also a different rear wheel. All this was taken from MT-10. The flywheel is mounted on the conical neck of the crankshaft via an adapter. A gasket was attached to the crankcase through a gasket made of aluminum. So, the motor became a little longer and ceased to fit into the frame, so it was decided to lengthen it. Then, the power unit was fixed in an elongated frame for four silent blocks.

To fix the pendulum, new supports were welded. However, I had to cut out the middle part to make it already. To fully use the power and traction, the main gear was changed.

Since it is a diesel, the battery was not designed in the design. The machine can stand even three years, and then quietly start. Also there is no ignition, anti-theft alarm. Thanks to a powerful generator, the light works best.

So, with a great desire and a certain amount of time to install a diesel engine on a motorcycle - a completely solvable task.
