Erik Morales. Ups and downs

Mexican fighters always differed in character and will. Therefore, the number of outstanding boxers from this Latin American country is simply enormous. However, there are always people who deserve special attention. And one of these athletes was Erik Morales.

Brief information

Erik Morales was born on September 1, 1976 in the city of Tijuana. His father - Jose Morales - in his youth was also a boxer and played in the super lightweight. Eric lived and trained for a long time in the father's house, because alongside the building was a training hall. Today in the same house there is also a news Internet portal of Eric.

Fights in amateurs

At the age of five, Erik Morales begins boxing. In total, during the period of his amateur career, he conducted 114 fights, 108 of which won convincing victories. It is noteworthy that even with the mere competition in the boxing ring in Mexico, the guy was able to become the eleven-time champion of his country. This indicator already speaks volumes.

Hobbies and interests

In addition to boxing, Erik Morales pays a lot of time computer technology. And therefore almost everywhere and always carries a laptop. Also, the Mexican is a manager and promoter for organizing fights in southern California in the US, as well as in his home country. In addition to sports success Morales is happy in marriage with his wife, America, and brings up three children.

Professional career

Erik Morales, whose biography can be in many ways an excellent example for the younger generation, made his debut in professional boxing battles on March 29, 1993 in his hometown. The beginning turned out to be successful - he knocked out the opponent already in the second round. His first professional title (though only of South American importance) Eric won in 1994, defeating veteran Jose Valdez.

Real glory to Morales came after the victory over the famous Daniel Zaragoza, whom the Mexican knocked out a blow to the body in the eleventh round, thus winning the world title under the WBC featherweight title.

After a series of successful defenses, Eric on February 19, 2000, meets in the ring with the WBO world champion Mark Antonio Barrera. Unsurpassed in the heat of passion, the fight ended in a decision of the judges, which confirmed Morales as the winner. The fight itself was recognized as a battle of the year by the respected sports print edition The Ring.

This victory enabled the Mexican talent to move into another weight category and continue its triumphal march there. However, the destiny of the villain prepared an unpleasant surprise for Eric.

June 22, 2002 was a repeated duel between Morales and Barrera. This time the victory on points was celebrated by Marco Antonio. Although, according to viewers and experts, the battle was at least equal.

The defeat did not break the champion, because he showed a high-quality box. Erik Morales holds many more fights, in which he continues to win, until in March 2005 he again saw Barrera in the ring. To the great regret of Erik's fans, he lost again.

In 2005-2006, Morales had three fights with the star of the world boxing Manny Pacquiao. The Mexican was able to win only in the first fight, and in the other two he lost by technical knockout.

In August 2007, Morales once again loses. The victory over him was won by world champion in lightweight David Diaz. After this defeat, Eric announces his retirement from boxing. But already in 2010 he returns again, and quite successfully, after three victorious battles in a row. However, in 2011 he loses to Marcos Maidana, and in 2012 he can not beat Danny Garcia twice.

In June 2014, Morales again announces his decision to retire without notifying the public about the possibility of holding his farewell duel.
