Amyloidosis of the kidneys: forms, symptoms and treatment

There are many kidney diseases. One of them is amyloidosis, which is the deposition of amyloid in tissues. Amyloid is formed by metabolic disturbances and is a complex compound of proteins and polysaccharides. Amyloidosis of the kidneys has several basic forms:

1. Primary (which is still called idiopathic and genyinogo amyloidosis), in which visible reasons are difficult to determine.

2. Secondary, which occurs against a background of chronic diseases.

3. Genetic (hereditary, familial), which occurs as a result of genetic disorders of protein synthesis.

4. The Old Man

As practice shows, secondary amyloidosis of the kidneys is more common than the primary one. In this case, the infection that caused its occurrence may be different. It can develop as a result of tuberculosis, osteomyelitis, as well as diseases associated with suppuration of the lungs. Also this form of the disease appears with rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis. In rare cases, amyloidosis of the kidneys can occur against the background of sinusitis, tonsillitis, mastitis and syphilis.

As a rule, amyloidosis of the kidneys, the symptoms of which may not appear, has several possible primary signs:

1. Appearance of puffiness

2. Periodic weakness

3. Diarrhea

4. Increased blood pressure

5. Renal failure

The presence of protein in the urine is a characteristic feature for all forms of amyloidosis. Amyloidosis of the kidneys leads to disruption of the heart and malfunction of the gastrointestinal tract. As a rule, a stable heart rhythm is lost, and heart failure also occurs . Still there is an increase in the liver and spleen, although bright signs of a violation of their functionality may not manifest.

In order to diagnose amyloidosis of the kidneys, a biopsy of the kidneys, liver, rectum and skin should be performed. As a rule, conducting a biopsy of the rectum shell in more than 70% of cases helps the detection of amyloids. Doctors usually most trust the results of a biopsy.

In amyloidosis, echocardiography is also performed, which can show seals of the left ventricular wall, septum between the ventricles, as well as signs of a disruption in the functionality of the diastole. Typically, with this disease, the left ventricle chamber of normal size or reduced. When an ultrasound is performed, the size of the kidney in this disease can be normal or increased.

Modern medicine does not have a specific treatment for such a disease as amyloidosis of the kidneys. Treatment, which is usually used, is mainly aimed at eliminating the cause that caused the development of the disease (this is the case when the amyloidosis is secondary). As a rule, the patient is recommended a special diet and a course of chemotherapy. Sometimes hemodialysis and kidney transplantation are performed , which replaces the affected organ.

If the amyloids are located in any one organ and are not distributed throughout the body, amyloidosis is not dangerous to the life of the patient. Signs of the disease are poorly expressed. Otherwise, the recovery depends on the correct treatment, the intensity of treatment and the severity of the disease that caused the development of amyloidosis.

It is safer to prevent the development of the disease. As a rule, prevention consists in the timely treatment of a disease that can cause kidney damage and amyloidosis. For this, it is necessary to undergo regular medical examinations and take the necessary tests. Then the risk of deterioration and the emergence of pathology is significantly reduced.
