Cultivation of watermelons in the open ground in the suburban area: this is real

It's hard to find someone who does not like watermelon. Juicy and sweet, it gives real pleasure not only to children, but also to adults. The season when watermelons appear on sale is the second half of summer. But as for the independent cultivation of this berry, it's not so simple. And, however, in recent years the possibility has become more real, and the great merit here is that in due time more resistant to weather conditions were brought out.

As you know, watermelon is very fond of three things: light, heat and humidity. The middle stripe of Russia is not quite ideal for growing this fruit, but if you make some effort, then something, but it can work out. So, if you decided to try to grow watermelon in your dacha, be prepared for the fact that all your efforts will go wrong. Watermelon - a demanding and capricious berry, but not greedy: there will be a withdrawal, there will be a harvest. As a rule, cultivation of watermelons in open ground and greenhouses (greenhouses) is practiced.

Cultivation of watermelons in the open ground

If you are going to grow watermelons on the street, then remember that for normal germination of seeds you need a temperature of 18-250C, and in order for the berries to ripen well - 25-300C. Low temperatures are fatal, as well as very high temperatures.

For planting choose open, unshadowed areas. It will be nice if you choose a landing site for a landing on which winter wheat or corn, perennial grasses, grew up before. Since the autumn, prepare the soil for planting watermelons: dig it up properly, add organic fertilizers. Since the plant does not tolerate freezing, it is necessary to plant seedlings first. Do it best in peat cups. When the seedlings reach a period of growth of 30-35 days, and the weather is established on the street without frost, you can begin growing watermelons in the open ground.

Dug again the site, add humus. Plant two or three seeds in each pit at a decent distance from each other. Fill the pits with earth, pour and cover with a film. When there are shoots, remove the film. Further care will be reduced to the removal of weeds, watering and, if necessary, additional feeding. Watermelons are very fond of moisture, so watering them should be abundant, but only until I start to ripen the fruit. At this time, watering should be significantly reduced. To grow watermelons in the open ground brought a good harvest, one care is not enough, stable and warm sunny weather is also important. And here already from the person it is not enough, that depends.

Cultivation of watermelons in a greenhouse

This method, perhaps, is the most effective for cultivating watermelons in the middle belt. In the greenhouse it is always warmer, in comparison with the street, and this is exactly what is most needed for the growth of watermelons.

Seedlings planted in late March, early April. This can be done in the apartment, and already in early May, transplant reinforced and grown seedlings directly into the greenhouse, which should already be prepared. The soil is digested twice - in autumn and in spring, also do not forget to bring in organic or mineral fertilizers. Further care for the seedlings is reduced to watering and airing the greenhouse. It is also important to monitor the temperature, which should not be lower than the very low and the same high.

The technology of growing watermelons in different areas can differ significantly. But again, all this is due to climatic features. Where temperatures are very low, there is no point in starting growing this berry at all, as it will not be possible to harvest the crop anyway.

If you managed to grow your watermelons, it's great. So, in the near future you can multiply your capital by selling this delicious berry.
