Causes and symptoms of cholelithiasis

Unfortunately, gallstones can hardly be called a rarity, since such a problem is often found in medical practice. That is why information about the causes and symptoms of cholelithiasis is so important. And although the disease affects men and women, in the fair sex it is diagnosed three times more often.

Gallstone disease: causes

The cause of the formation of stones can be any violation, which leads to stagnation of bile or changes in its composition. And before you learn about what are the main symptoms of cholelithiasis, you should familiarize yourself with the main risk factors.

  • To begin with, we must mention hormonal disorders, since hormones in one way or another control the exchange of cholesterol and its removal from the body. For example, often gallstones appear as a result of pregnancy, menopause or the use of certain hormonal drugs.
  • The diet is of great importance. In particular, the use of cholesterol-rich food, as well as spices and alcoholic beverages, increases the chances of developing such a disease. People with obesity should be included in the risk group.
  • Symptoms of cholelithiasis often appear against the background of liver cirrhosis.
  • In addition, people with diseases such as diabetes mellitus, Crohn's disease, metabolic syndrome are more prone to such a disease.

In any case, you must always carefully monitor the condition of the body and well-being - only so you can suspect in time the presence of problems.

Symptoms of cholelithiasis

In the gallbladder, stones are formed, consisting mainly of cholesterol, proteins, some pigment substances and mineral salts. They can have different sizes and shapes. The early stages of the development of cholelithiasis proceed, as a rule, asymptomatically - the main signs appear in the event that the stones block the normal outflow of bile.

  • Usually, an attack of so-called colic begins with aching pain that occurs in the right upper quadrant and sometimes can be given to the sternum or to the right scapula.
  • The pain intensifies after eating too fatty, spicy or sharp foods.
  • In some cases, nausea and vomiting occur.

Such attacks occur periodically and can last from several minutes to several hours. In any case it is necessary to ask for help.

Gallstone disease and methods of treatment

Methods of treatment depend on the patient's condition and intensity of symptoms, as well as on the size and composition of the stones.

  • If large stones are found in the gallbladder, then the only effective treatment is surgical removal of the gallbladder. Practically in 95% of cases, such an operation leads to complete recovery.
  • If the stones are small, then they can be shredded using ultrasonic waves.
  • Sanatorium-resort rest is able to help only some patients with a diagnosis of "cholelithiasis". Treatment with mineral water and certain medicines is possible only if the stones consist mainly of cholesterol, only then they can be tried to dissolve with the help of conservative methods.
