Fungus on the hands: causes, symptoms and treatment

Fungus on the hands - a common disease, which causes a lot of inconvenience. The cause is pathogenic microorganisms. And, despite the apparent ease of the disease, with such problems it is necessary to immediately seek the help of a dermatologist.

Fungus on the hands and its causes

The disease is the result of active multiplication of pathogenic microorganisms of fungal origin. Fungus can be infected from a sick person, both during direct contact and by household use.

Nevertheless, fungal skin lesions on the hands can occur and for completely different reasons. The fact is that on the skin (especially between the fingers) there always lives a small number of conditionally pathogenic microorganisms. The immune system of a healthy organism restrains the activity of fungi. But as soon as the immunity is weakened, microorganisms begin to multiply actively. First, the upper, and then deeper layers of the skin are affected. By the way, this is why the fungus on the hands is much more common among the elderly, as the immune system is weakened. Nevertheless, fungal diseases are by no means a rarity among young men and women.

Fungus on the hands: symptoms

The main signs of fungal diseases directly depend on the type of infection and the stage of its development. However, a strong symptom of the disease is a strong skin itch, which, as a rule, only increases after washing hands. In addition, dry skin is observed.

If you do not start treatment, fungal microorganisms continue to multiply actively, penetrating deeper into the skin and hitting the lower layers. As a result of the life of the pathogen, the skin on the hands begins to crack. Sometimes fungus is accompanied by the appearance of wounds and sores. It is worth noting that the fungus on the hands often affects the nail plates, causing changes in the structure, stratification of the nails and a change in color.

The danger of the disease lies in the fact that with the hands of the infection can very quickly move to other parts of the body, including the face, groin and feet.

How to cure a fungus on the hands?

First, it should be noted that with the first symptoms you need to contact a dermatologist. The sooner you start treatment, the sooner the fungus disappears on your hands. Running fungal diseases are fraught with a deep skin lesion and are much more difficult to affect the medications. The doctor will examine the affected areas, assess the skin condition, get acquainted with the result of the analysis and only after that can make an effective treatment regimen.

In the early stages of the disease it will be enough to treat the affected skin with special antifungal agents. Now they are issued in the form of ointments, gels, lotions and sprays.

In those cases, if the patient turned to a doctor with more severe lesions, (appearance of cracks, ulcers and pustules), external treatment is unlikely to be enough, because infection from the deep layers of the skin can easily spread along with the blood flow. Such patients, as a rule, are prescribed complex therapy, which includes the administration of oral antifungal agents and external treatment of the skin. And, of course, the rules of personal hygiene are an integral part of treatment and prevention.
