Where does the yeast in the smear come from: treacherous thrush

Thrush (candida colpitis, genital candidiasis, yeast colpitis) is a disease that affects 75% of women, at least once in a lifetime.

Yeast in the Smear: Causes

The causative agent is yeast fungus of the genus Candida. This fungus is present in small numbers in women and is normal, but the disease develops when the fungus begins to multiply intensively. Often this happens when normal microflora is disturbed in the vagina. The reasons for this may include: taking antibiotics, not keeping hygiene, wearing synthetic clothes, reducing the level of estrogen (female sex hormones), chronic diseases (tuberculosis, inflammation in the internal genital organs, diabetes mellitus), reducing overall immunity. It happens that the cause of recurrent frequent relapses is the use of oral contraceptives.

Some believe that the yeast colpitis is transmitted necessarily sexually. This is not entirely true. In the presence of the above reasons, this disease may not be associated with sexual activity. In such cases, the sexual partner can be healthy, and therefore he does not need to be treated. In the case of infection from a partner, the disease develops only under certain conditions, which are favorable for the reproduction of the fungus (reduction in the body of protective forces, dysbacteriosis of the vagina). In such cases, it is necessary to be treated already both sex partners, otherwise you will be infected repeatedly from each other (in the treatment of yeast in a smear can disappear for a period, but the elimination of certain causes that caused their reproduction, correction of immunity and vaginal microflora require a long time) .

Yeast in the smear is one of the symptoms of thrush

The most unpleasant symptom of thrush is itching in the vagina and vulva. A woman can be bothered either throughout the day, or occasionally. As a result, there is nervousness, irritability, and sometimes insomnia.

The next symptom is white cheesy discharge. The number varies from insignificant to abundant.

At the sexual certificate or act or an emiction quite often there is a pain and a burning sensation.
On examination, white plaque, swelling and reddening of the mucous membranes can be observed.

In order to make a diagnosis, it is usually enough to ask a woman about complaints and the presence of factors that may contribute to the development of the disease, and gynecological examination.

To confirm the diagnosis and control the cure, an ordinary smear is given. Usually it shows an increased number of leukocytes (which indicates inflammation) and shows yeast (fungus). But! Yeast in the smear in the absence of symptoms of the disease is not an indication for the appointment of treatment, because they can be present in absolutely healthy people.
Sometimes (very rarely) it is necessary to sow vaginal discharge.

Yeast in the smear: treatment of genital candidiasis

Treatment of this disease is local and general. It is appointed dermatovenereologist or obstetrician-gynecologist.

For local treatment, apply various creams and suppositories (one of the listed drugs):

- Candles Hexicon - twice a day for 1 candle (10 days);
- Betadin suppositories - 1 candle for the night (7 days);
- Clotrimazole cream - twice a day (one to two weeks);
- candles of Livarol - every day for 1 candle (5-10 days);
- vaginal tablets Clotrimazole - for the night in the vagina for one (6-7 days) or twice a day for one (3 days);
- Ginofort cream - once;
- Pimafucin suppositories - for 1 night (6 days);
- tablets vaginal Klion D - for the night in the vagina for 1 tablet (10 days).

Candidiasis does not use drugs with lactobacilli, as they create an environment favorable for the development of fungi.

Treatment of the total is to take antifungal tablets: Mikosist, Flukostat, Diflucan, Flukonazol or Diflazon - once in a dose of 150 mg (all these drugs contain the same active substance called fluconazole, so it makes no sense, in case of inefficiency, to replace them with each other) Or Pimafucin in a dosage of 100 mg four times a day for 7-10 days.

Levorin and Nistatin, which were used by our mothers and grandmothers, are not currently used to treat yeast colpitis, as it has been proved that they are not absorbed from the intestine, hence their action is only there. In addition, when these drugs are taken, side effects are quite often observed.

In the case of mild disease, either general or local treatment is sufficient. But for a guaranteed result, one-time tablet preparation is usually used in combination with local treatment.

With relapse and chronic form of treatment will be longer. Local appoint for a period of 10 days to 2 weeks. And drugs with fluconazole are used already for 150 mg every 3 days (2 weeks), then monthly, for 4-10 months for 1 capsule (150 mg).

In addition, it is necessary to find and eliminate those factors that contribute to the development of thrush. Cases of ineffectiveness of therapy can be explained by intestinal dysbiosis, colonization of the intestine with a fungus. In such cases, the cleansing of the intestine is facilitated by the drug Pimafucin (four times a day, 1 tablet, 10 days).

To maintain a normal microflora, you must correctly observe the rules of hygiene. For example, frequent douches are harmful, since they wash out lactobacilli, thereby reducing the protective barrier.

Correct the immunity will help candles Viferon or Kipferon twice a day for one - 10 days, then monthly once a day for 1 candle, also 10 days - and so 3-6 months. Also necessary are courses of vitamin therapy.

It is often necessary and correction of the diet. After all, a large number of products containing sugar, promotes the development of genital candidiasis.

During the menopause, the level of estrogen is lower in women, which means that hormonal therapy is required.

Yeast in the smear during pregnancy and lactation: treatment

The frequency of thrush during pregnancy rises, especially in the last trimester. This is due to a physiological decrease in immunity.

Fungi in themselves do not have a negative effect on the course of pregnancy, but the symptoms can bother women. In addition to this, with genital candidiasis, a secondary infection can also be attached. In addition, on inflamed tissues, ruptures occur in labor more often, and in the postpartum period, healing takes place more slowly. Therefore, during pregnancy, thrush is desirable to treat.

It should be noted that preparations with fluconazole are contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation. Of the tablets, only Pimafucin can be taken. For local treatment, candles Betadine, Hexicon, Pimafucine and Livarol are allowed for use (a course of treatment of such duration as for non-pregnant).

Genital candidiasis in men

Thrush in men can be itchy, swollen and red in the foreskin or glans penis, a touch of white on the genitals, and pain can also occur when urinating.

Usually, local treatment with a clotrimazole or pimafucine cream is sufficient. Sometimes also prescribed drugs with fluconazole (once in a dose of 150 mg).

It should be remembered that despite the availability and variety of antifungal agents, it is better not to engage in self-medication, especially when relapses. The doctor will help you choose the right antifungal agent, will draw out the scheme of its application, and also prescribe the correct treatment aimed at the very cause that caused the reproduction of the fungus, because without this point the relief will be temporary.

Be healthy!
