A. Ostrovsky and his "Dowry". Summary of the famous play

One of the brilliant works of Russian literature was highly appreciated by critics and the public at the time of its appearance. The play "The Dowry", a summary of which is known to every schoolboy, was written in 1878. Often this masterpiece is compared to another drama, which also belongs to the pen of Alexander Ostrovsky - "Storm". In these two works, there is really much in common: an interesting story, the intensity of feelings, the skill of the word. And they both wonderfully accurately convey the spirit of that era, the mood of people and the environment.

Summary. "The Dowry" is a play that was published at a time when Russia was going through reforms. It reflects the realities of the bourgeois class and the fate of a small man trapped in false values. Apparently, to keep from the wrong decisions of society and wrote his drama Ostrovsky. "Dowryless" - a brief content of the country's life, where young people are looking for wealth and easy ways. This is the embodiment of the fall of mores in pursuit of their vanity. This is a picture that shows that even having reached the imaginary "desired", you will not be happy. After all, the meaning of life is quite different. Acute problems are supplemented by a unique artistic word. The battle of the spiritual and the material breaks the immature man. The tragedy of Larissa's fate is that she did not believe in her own strength, she did not fight for her dream, but stayed with the flow. Then fate made its choice for her.

The drama "The Dowry", the short content of the play allows us to understand this, is actual in our days.

The action begins in the fictional provincial town of the late nineteenth century. In Bryakhimov, which stands on the banks of the majestic Volga River, there is a widow with three daughters. The main goal of her life is to marry her children. That's why Harita Ignatievna invites guests to her house, despite the lack of funds. The two older daughters, she still managed to attach, but there was still one - Larissa. And although near the bride and groom turn their suitors, no one hurries to take her as a wife. The girl herself fell in love with Paratov, a wealthy shipowner. And when everyone hopes for the wedding, he suddenly, without saying a word, hurries away. Her husband's search continues.

With a broken heart, Larissa agrees to marry Karandyshev, who is in love with her, but on the eve of the wedding the beloved returns. The girl goes with him to his steamer, spends the night with him. But in the morning Paratov admits that he is forced to marry a wealthy bride in order to save his fortune. Friends of Paratov (Knorov and Vozhevatov), who were among the admirers of Larisa, solder her fiancé, and they themselves play it out in a toss. The disgraced girl does not say anything about the offer to become Knurov's guardian. Meanwhile, having sobered up, Karandyshev catches up with the boat on the boat and again offers her hand and heart. But Larissa refuses and agrees to be an "expensive thing." Deceived fiance in desperation shoots at the girl. Before her death, she thanks the killer for this shot.

"The Bride", the summary of which is told above, marked the birth of a new theater in Russia, a new development of culture. It is difficult to convey in a few lines the storm of emotions that this work gives. The fate of man is closely related to the realities of the age. The heroine is doomed to perdition, a beautiful girl, rich spiritually and morally, but - a non-dowry. The summary can only convey the essence, the plot, but can not be transferred to the atmosphere carefully created by the author.
