Redrick Schuhart: the hero of the novel "Picnic on the Roadside"

Redrik Shuhart is a character of the Strugatsky philosophical and fantasy work. The subject of the article is a characterization of the main character of the novel "Picnic on the Roadside".

The novel takes place in Harmont. Near the city is the so-called Visiting Zone. Were there aliens here? How long did they stay? Where did you go after visiting Earth? For the staff of the institute of extraterrestrial cultures, the answers to these questions are not so important, as the realization that humanity is not alone in the universe. Soon new discoveries will be made. The employees of the Institute are convinced of this. One of them is Redrik Schuhart. He is also a former stalker.

The Visiting Zone is constantly being researched. Here there are not only scientists, but also stalkers - desperate guys who, at the risk of everyone, penetrate into the dangerous area in order to get out of there everything that will be possible. In 1997, according to the work of the Strugatsky brothers, the film "Stalker" was shot. Under this word, one should understand the representative of a new profession, which is Redrik Schuhart. Kirill Panov

Redrik Schuhart is a laboratory assistant at the branch of the Institute of Extraterrestrial Cultures. He is twenty-three years old and is single. At least, this is his age and marital status at the beginning of the novel.

The head of Redrick is a young Russian scientist Kirill Panov, who studies dummies. Researchers find similar details near the Visiting Zone. Redrick in the past, being a stalker, has more than once seen such items. However, they were not empty, but filled with blue liquid. The laboratory assistant tells the scientist about this.

Together they go to the Visiting Zone to search for "dummies". But after a dangerous journey, Cyril dies from a heart attack, which becomes the consequence of touching a strange silver web. Redrick blames himself for the death of a scientist.

Five years later

In the third chapter, the novel's hero is married, he has a daughter growing up. Redrick no longer works at the institute. He again became a stalker. In the novel appears a new character - Vulture Barbridge. In the circle of stalkers has his nickname Redrick Schuhart. Red - this is what these strange people call him, ready to risk not only their lives for the sake of money, but also the lives of people close to them.

With Barbridge Redrick is sent to a new expedition. However, on the way, the Vulture injures the legs. Red-haired Shewhart saves him. But not because he promises to open it, where there is a golden ball that fulfills desires. And because, despite his unseemly activities, Redrick is not so bad. Greed, greed are not characteristic features of this hero.

Shewhart again goes to the Visiting Zone. But this time he is arrested and sentenced to several years in prison.

At large

Over the years, Redrick spent in prison, his daughter has changed a lot. The girl will soon die. The purpose of the next Stalker raid Shuharta - the rescue of her daughter. Somewhere in the Visiting Zone there is a Golden Ball that will help the hero to return it. In the last journey, the stalker risks the life of his former partner's son. But this risk is not justified. Looking at the Golden Ball, Red understands with horror that he has no more words or thoughts.

Redrick Schuhart is intelligent, bold and kind. He has a sense of justice. But what is the cause of the crime that he is committing at the end of his journey? It's not about congenital depravity. And in the shortcomings of a society in which there are too many personalities who do not want to live and work honestly. The only person who could influence the fate of Shewhart was Kirill Panov. But the Russian physicist perished. After that, Red was even more angry with himself. Another death (the one in which Shewhart was already really guilty) led to the fact that the hero denied himself, from all the nasty things that had accumulated in his soul for many years.
