Zakhar Prilepin - "Sanya", "Black Monkey"

Zakhar Prilepin is the author of "Sanka", "Black Monkey", "Pathology", "Sin", authoritative blogger and publicist, caressed with criticism, audience, influential cultural figures of the novels, Sanka, a symbolic and promising figure in the rapidly growing opposition part of the political space.
Trying to get acquainted with the texts so actively promoted from all sides of the media space as samples of new quality literature, I left Prilepin's novels to "afterwards", because the topics seemed alien and uninteresting. The Chechen massacre and everyday life of the young associates of Limonov for various reasons did not seem to me successful plots. Chechnya is a "black hole" of Russian politics, economics, taboo for journalism and statistical research. The true causes, consequences of the conflict, the relationship of the warring parties are all covered in gloom, a serious analysis of the situation is of interest only to human rights defenders declared marginalized and perishing at regular intervals. To believe that such a question could be adequately described by the author nominated for literary awards printed in Ogonyok appearing on the television screen and not being the object of criminal prosecution or a victim of the next "Berezovsky's mercenaries" is not possible until now, the book is still Lies unread. Limonov is uninteresting to me either as a writer or as an organizer of an extremist youth movement. It's interesting where the conscience and shame of a man who justifies Stalin's repressions by the insignificant number of victims (only 600 thousand people), who curses the West with its false values, declares the Soviet system advanced, and at the same time remembers freedom, democracy, elections, independent court as soon as The underdeveloped repressive machine of the advanced state has touched him. His past assertions, Limons wrong, did not announce, but changed rhetoric. So it remained incomprehensible, democracy and an independent court needed a prominent writer exclusively for his own needs, or did his views on an ideal state system change? This is the only interesting question about Limonov and followers - it is doubtful that the novel "Sanka" responded to him, and later it turned out.
Publicism Prilepin also did not seem interesting. Viscous texts without fresh ideas, boring debates with Aven on far-fetched issues, a description of their own alcoholic practices. Another fighter for social justice without clear prescriptions and economic education. Nevertheless, Prilepin seemed to me a promising politician as a carrier of the Social-Democratic idea, which recently seemed to be the only competitive alternative to the current "rising from the knees". A brutal fighter for social justice, a father of many children, a participant in the Chechen wars, unnoticed in obvious transactions with the authorities and who knows how to link words to meaningful proposals - who, if not him, should become the banner of the opposition?
The novel "Black Monkey", namely the declared content - "a man with a character in search of himself in Russia, two thousand", and a completely enthusiastic criticism finally get to know the author. Dmitry Bykov said that with this text Prilepin had justified all the expectations that he had been entrusted to him before, and could not write for five years now, he gave such a powerful work. I became acquainted and remained perplexed. There is no conspicuous plot, for example, the adventures of an unruly half-god uncle from his wife to his mistress, from a lover to a prostitute, in breaks - an investigation of a contrived, irrelevant, unnecessary topic. In the end - "pshik". It is literally unclear what the book is about, why it is written. Obvious nonsense, written by a boring, insipid language, not a single slash phrase, not a ridiculous joke.
And recently, having read an interview with a respected, joke-free, Sergei Jurassic, I learned that Sanka had discovered a new, uncharted world for him. What kind of peace, it was not deciphered, I suspect, it was about the life of the Russian remote places and the everyday life of the followers of Limonov. The novel does have several shock scenes designed for impressionable individuals, but nothing new about the country and its problems. So, transshipment of the coffin with the corpse of the father of the hero through the rural impassability in the cold with a realistic prospect of freezing to death, probably was conceived as a vivid metaphor for the harshness of the socio-political climate. But the thought is not original, and the scene looks like a fragment of an inexpensive thrash thriller for teenagers. The beating of the main hero by riot police to half-death in the forest is also harsh, but boring, like the whole text. I did not understand what new spaces were opened by Sergei Jurassic when reading. I got the impression that artistic circles are very far from people's life, if they are impressed by such unassuming tricks.
The political prospects of Prilepin also faded with the winter demonstrations. It turned out that the radical leftist idea is not a real threat to the regime, as we were frightened for a long time. If there is a revolution, then the velvet-bourgeois, socialist archaism and the desire for paternalism will soon go into service in the cooperative "Lake."
By the way, the last months have disappeared from media space and Prilepin, and Limonov. I hope that the sudden disappearance is not connected with the reformatting of the writer's role, which is no longer a scarecrow for the educated class, but with an attempt to write something that corresponds to the reputation of not just hope, but already formed a bright phenomenon in the Russian
