Naphthyzine child: harm or benefit?

"Naphthyzin" for many years was the most popular drug in our country. A quick action, a low price, an opportunity to buy a medicine without a prescription attracted many who suffer from nasal congestion. However, a large number of patients from those who actively used the drug, were surprised to understand that in a week's time its effectiveness fell sharply, but it was very addictive.

I myself have experienced the unpleasant consequences of addiction to this medicine. Even when the runny nose has long since passed, the nose refused to breathe without another dose of drops. Without them my head ached, my eyes watered. It's good that in the forest, where we lived for two months, I broke a vial. After several painful days without a "dose," I finally began to breathe on my own.

Today this drug has several analogues. These include preparations "Galazolin", "Sanorin", "Nazol". All of them give a lot of side effects and are addictive. Even if the bottle has the inscription "Naphthyzine for children", this does not mean that the medicine is less harmful than the drug intended for adults. It is simply a matter of a lower concentration of the medicinal substance naphazoline. This yellowish, poorly water soluble powder has a bright vasoconstrictor property. It reduces the flow of blood to the vessels located in the nasal sinuses. This is why breathing is facilitated.

Just like the adult compound, "Naphtizin" for children is not intended for the treatment of sinusitis, sinusitis, any other diseases. It is designed simply to facilitate breathing, to help overcome the acute period of the disease. The use of "Naphthyzine" is based on its ability to reduce puffiness, very little effect on inflammation, reducing it. Therefore, most often the drug is used for the treatment of conditions in acute rhinitis, sometimes - to stop bleeding or to remove symptoms of sinusitis. In addition, the medicine is an auxiliary tool for carrying out a rhinoscopy.

Actually, this useful action of the drug with the name "Naphthyzine for children" is coming to an end.

There are only contra-indications and side reactions, because of which the medicine is practically not used today in pediatrics.

"Naphthyzine for children" (and adults too) is contraindicated:

  • Toddlers for up to a year;
  • People with unstable pressure;
  • At any diseases of the heart;
  • Diabetes;
  • Eye diseases;
  • During pregnancy, lactation.

It should be noted that if the medicine is used by children to avoid adverse reactions, then this is a mistake: the negative consequences do not decrease, the time of their onset is simply postponed.

The drug "Naftizin", a child or an adult, can cause an unpleasant outcome. Here are just some of the undesirable manifestations: nausea, tachycardia, headache, increased pressure.

But if such consequences occur rarely, then addiction always comes. It is expressed in the fact that the dose of the drug acts less and less, forcing either to shorten the gaps between the administration of the drug, or to increase these doses.

So, do not use the drug at all? "Naphthyzine for children" can be used, but do it very carefully.

First, to drip in the nose is not more than two drops. Children under five years are dripping 0.025 percent, over five are 0.05 percent.

Secondly, the medicine is used only on the advice of a doctor and not more than three times a day.

Finally, do not use the remedy for longer than 4 days.

On a completely logical question about what to do if the addiction in the child or adult has already come, there is only one answer. You just need to throw the medicine away. The first few days the patient will experience a feeling of severe discomfort, but gradually breathing will recover, the dependence will pass.

If the medicine is used constantly, then there is a possibility that the nasal mucosa will be permanently damaged by "Naphthyzine".

Therefore, the easiest way is not to buy an outdated compound, but on the advice of a doctor to use the newest drugs that have a gentle sparing effect. Especially when it comes to the health of children.
