Cardiac preparations: basic groups

To date, diseases of the cardiovascular system are a frequent reason why people turn to doctors. Any disease of the heart or blood vessels can endanger the lives of patients, therefore, needs timely treatment.

Damage to the heart is observed in the following diseases:

• viral or bacterial infection;

• syphilis;

• Atherosclerosis;

• congenital pathologies;

• Functional lesions, which are caused by exposure to toxins, depression, coffee, alcohol.

Despite a significant number of factors capable of damaging the myocardium, drug developers manage to introduce into the practice of medicine all new pharmacological preparations that are characterized by high therapeutic efficacy and safety even with prolonged use.

Preparations for the heart, which are often prescribed for pathologies of the cardiovascular system, can be divided into the following main groups:

1. Means that are used for angina pectoris (antianginal group).

2. Antiarrhythmic drugs.

3. Medications used in myocardial infarction.

4. Drugs that are prescribed for heart failure.

5. Means that improve the trophic processes in the heart muscle (most often used drugs "Riboxin" or "Asparcum").

6. Medicines that regulate blood pressure.

It should be noted that in the case of cardiac pathologies, other pharmacological agents that do not relate to cardiac drugs can also be used, but have a positive effect on the dynamics of cardiac diseases.

Cardiac drugs are prescribed taking into account the functional state of the heart and the degree of its defeat.

Widespread use of lipid-lowering and anti-sclerotics, which have no direct effect on the heart muscle, but are able to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides, the excessive concentration of which adversely affects the work of the heart and blood vessels.

Cardiac drugs are also often combined with angioprotectors. They are agents that improve microcirculation, reduce edema of the vascular wall, normalize its permeability, and also positively influence metabolic processes, which allows to include them in complex therapy of cardiovascular diseases.

Cardiac drugs show a more effective therapeutic effect with the simultaneous administration of calcium channel blockers, which provide a pathogenetic effect. It consists in reducing the number of calcium ions, which, in pathological conditions (especially in myocardial ischemia), cause the acceleration of cellular metabolism, which increases the need for the heart in oxygen, and also provokes destructive processes in it.

When using calcium antagonists, vessels dilate, their peripheral resistance decreases, coronary blood flow improves, and blood pressure decreases, which has a positive effect on the course of cardiac pathologies.

I must say that any medications should be taken after consulting a doctor, since various cardiac preparations are characterized by individual pharmacological action, and also have a number of contraindications, so self-medication is unacceptable.
