"Marriage": a summary. "The Marriage", Gogol N.V.

In the literature tasks, the topic is often: "Summary (" Marriage ", Gogol)". The author filled the work with satire, characters, depicting the realism of the existence of the nobility in the province. Now this play is rightfully considered a classic. This article introduces the play "Marriage". A brief summary (Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol called the original work "Grooms") will slightly open the veil of what would have been worth seeing on the stage of the theater. You will not regret it.

How the play is broken into fragments

You will not waste time in vain, going to the play, which is staged according to the play of such an author as Gogol N. V. ("The Marriage"). The summary of the chapters can not convey the irony of what is happening.

Plays of that time are very difficult to break into pieces, because they provide 2-3 actions and an infinite number of phenomena. Separation in the format of the novel is not there, so you'll have to break everything into logical scenes yourself.

It is not easy to state a brief summary. "Marriage" (Gogol is the master of dialogues) has an important part of the play - unique conversations of characters. But even without them, the author's irony is clear.

The beginning of history

The charm of the play is in its plot, this is confirmed by a brief summary. "Marriage" (Gogol repeatedly wanted to put it on the stage) was played for the first time on December 9, 1842 in St. Petersburg. The comedy provoked controversial cues from critics.

The beginning of the play is the home of the bachelor Podkolesin.

A lazy, smoker, nobleman Ivan Kuzmich Podkolesin, lies on the couch all day (if he is not on duty, of course). A bachelor's life, like, completely suits him, but that's what is missing! Acting as an adviser, Podkolesin behaves like a colonel, despising people of low rank. To make his person even more important, he decides to marry. Of course, not for the sake of love, but for the sake of talking about him and a momentous event.

Matchmaker, Fyokla Ivanovna, "ate a dog" for people like him. It is not so important for them to marry and with what dowry the bride will be. If only she was. Therefore, such issues are resolved quickly and for "good pay". However, Ivan Kuzmich was lucky - just at the same time looking for a groom for Agafia Tikhonovna Kuperdagina, and Fyokla intends to reduce them.

Disservice

At the very moment when she comes to talk to Podkolesin, Ilya Fomich Kochkarev, Ivan Kuzmich's best friend, comes along with her. At one time, Fekla married him, and not very fortunate. Having cleared the information about Agafia Tikhonovna from the matchmaker, Ilya Fomich expels her, stating that he will woo a friend. Yes, the fact is that Kochkarev is an extremely stubborn fellow, accustomed, as they say, from his place to the quarry. Therefore, he takes Podkolesin to Agafya Tikhonovna immediately.

In the house of the Cooperdagins, along with Podkolesin, but under the leadership of Fekla, three more grooms arrive. They get to know each other, communicate - everyone understands why another came. Finally, the bride herself appears. The grooms vied with each other in the same way as they should in the Russian matchmaking process - initially on extraneous topics. Only Ivan Kuzmich is silent, for him everything says Kochkarev.

Perseverance

However, their hints are clear to Agafya Tikhonovna. Unable to survive, she simply runs off into another room. Dumbfounded men are left alone with the matchmaker, who invites them to wait until the evening. Everybody agrees.

One Kochkarev can not calm down. He teases us to go to the bride right now. Podkolesin insists that the lady should choose herself. But he agrees to marry right away, if all the other suitors cease to exist.

The Power of Tricks

In the evening Agafya Tikhonovna tries to determine by lot the one who is dearer to her. All the grooms like her the same way, and she just can not decide. Suddenly Kochkarev appears in the room, insisting on the need to select Ivan Kuzmich.

He praises him, telling what a wonderful person he is. He censured all the other suitors: that fighter, that rowdy. He offers to slam the door in front of their noses and just have a private conversation with Podkolesin to see how right Ilya Fomich is.

Each groom in the evening seeks to come first to communicate with the bride. Eventually, they all gather in the Cooperdagin's house before the appointed time and almost at the same time. Again, they are forced to communicate with each other, almost not concealing disgust. There is everything except the main character.

Here comes Agafya Tikhonovna. The bridegrooms immediately attack her with talk. She, frightened, uses the advice of Kochkarev, expels everyone and runs out of the room. Immediately there appears Ilya Fomich, who blames the bride. His trick works. The future bridegrooms are almost convinced that the bride is bad. They leave the Cooperdagins, opening the way to Ivan Kuzmich.

Some

The next scene (phenomenon XIV) is very important. And it should be mentioned if we are going to present a brief summary. "Marriage" (Gogol in such a small dialogue opened the heroes in a new way) is a play filled with ridiculous scenes that wonderfully convey all the comedy and absurdity of the situation, the heaviness that hung in the air. Such dialogue should be read, penetrating into every word.

Podkolesin comes to the stage. He does not know what to talk about, what to discuss.

They jump from topic to topic, from the weather to the workers. They are simply lost, but they feel sympathy for each other. Especially it is noticeable by Agafya Tikhonovna, who, despite the modesty of her interlocutor, can not but marvel at his soul. And this is probably the best scene in the whole play.

The final part

So, it would seem, everything was settled. The newlyweds timidly start talking to each other, both like each other ... But Kochkarev reappears. He (speaking in his ear) demands from Podkolesin to make an offer to Agafya Tikhonovna. But he refuses.

Then Ilya Fomich himself does this, referring to the shyness of Ivan Kuzmich. The bride replies "yes" and runs away to change, because the wedding is already today!

However, Podkolesin does not dare to take such a desperate step. They quarrel with Kochkarev, then they make up. On emotions Ivan Kuzmich thanks Ilya Fomich, and he leaves to check whether everything is in order with the bride. At the same time he takes his friend's hat so that he does not go away. However, Podkolesin is not going to leave anyone either. He, on the contrary, is indescribably happy. With himself, he leads a monologue about all the delights of marriage, walks around the room, arguing that now he will not be alone!

And at some point he realizes that all this is far from his liking. But where to go? Only escape. And he runs through the open window.

The bride enters the room, but does not find her future husband in it. Silent scene, after which all eyes are turned to Kochkarev. He himself does not know what to do. Everyone starts to scold him for what the light stands.

That's how you can finish the short content of the book "Marriage" (the author, whose name is known by NV Gogol, everyone knows today).

Conclusion

Gogol had amazing qualities. Being a man inclined to mysticism, dark, incomprehensible, he liked to instill fear into the reader, but at the same time remained an incredibly humorous person. Satire in the form of the play "Marriage" - a vivid example of this. Here Nikolai Vasilyevich managed to laugh at everything, starting from the bad institute of matchmaking of noblemen, from cowardice to excessive determination and self-confidence.

The author would probably be surprised how popular the play became, and how often on the playbills of theaters one can read: "The Marriage", Gogol. Very brief content, of course, does not allow you to enjoy many of its aspects to the fullest. For example, dialogs, which in many ways resembled the future of Ostrovsky.

It remains to be hoped that the brief content of Gogol's play "The Marriage" will give an opportunity to at least feel the "fragrance" of the author's gargantuan irony, his ability to show everything on the ridiculous side. And if it causes a desire to read the play or see its production, then believe me, you will not regret it. This work deserves its place on your bookshelf.
