Development of Turkestan

The absence of metal products and some typological characteristics (broken tools, etc.) make it possible to assume a more ancient, purely neolithic, age of these sites. Perhaps also their chronological difference from each other. If this is so, the painted ceramics of Astana may be the forerunner of the same ceramics of the first group.

Finally, the absence of ceramics could serve as a sign of the earlier character of Tsitsiao-tszn and Yarkhu, but, noting this fact, we are not inclined to attach too much importance to it, since both points are very poorly studied, no excavations have been carried out there - at least here There is no information about them - therefore, one can not make final judgments about their cultural content. The development of Turkestan ...

The two groups of sites considered above are common in a fairly large area of Xinjiang, and their ranges approximately coincide. In contrast, the third group of monuments is located only in the extreme west of the province, but in two regions separated from each other by a distance of almost 450 km: in the Aksu district there is Kalayuyergun (Kara-yul-gun), and in Shufu County - Aketala, Wenguloke , Devowake and Ku-lukugala. A characteristic element that unites them and distinguishes them from other Xinjiang parks is the rather large polished stone tools. In Turkestan, people often trusted their fate map and in order to learn their destiny map they first of all had to learn the Zodiac signs by years.

Kalayuyergun (60 km east of Aksu) was opened in 1964. The result of small gatherings are pieces of ceramics - coarse red and gray, and gray from the batter - representing utensils such as pots, bowls, jugs and small cups On the pallet. They were made by hand, fired at a relatively low temperature and not ornamented - only the corners of the bowls are made small holes. In addition, two fragments of stone grinded tools, bone shillings and a small copper cup were found.

Aketala, Wengulokhe, Kuluketal and Devovakke, very close to each other, are in a deserted area, covered with small barkhans and subject to strong deflation. Therefore, the work carried out here in 1972 in the framework of the archaeological investigation of Shufu County was limited to the collection of a small amount of lifting material.
