Donut donuts is a classic American sweet dough product that has long become part of the pop culture of the country. A bit of history

Let's start with an interesting name. It comes from the English word dough - dough and nut - nut. This is because earlier American donuts donats were not in the form of a donut, but in the form of a ball.

The first mention of such sweetness dates back to the middle of the 19th century, and the settlers from Denmark to the states began to make them. It had its own name - olykoeks - buttercakes.

But because of its shape, the Americans have a confectionery product made of sweet dough fried in a deep fryer, received a different name - a nut from dough. And before it was brewed not in oil, but in pork fat, until the formation of a golden crust. An interesting dish caught on and gained unprecedented popularity. How do these donuts look today? There could be a play of words - the expression dough knots - nodules from dough, it is pronounced almost the same as "donuts" and can have a reference to baking in the same name. And maybe the word nut is a nut, does not apply to appearance, and it was used because the middle of a donut was badly cooked, and it was filled with nuts or berries, that is, a stuffing that does not need careful heat treatment.

Which form is correct?

And a solid ball, and in the form of a bagel - both have the same name - a donut donuts. The first option is historically older and rather simple in cooking at home. After all, all you need to roll the dough into a small nut, which is obsessed with the mouth. Sometimes it is made from the remains of raw materials, obtained after making holes in donut donuts - do not throw away the same product.

The second variant of molding gives two advantages. The first is like everything - there is no damp center, the donut is evenly cooked from all sides. The second is more important for those who sell sweets. Donut with a hole is convenient and hygienic to prick the rod and from it put it on a plate or in a package to the buyer. This form can be done in many ways:

  • Folding sausages from dough into a circle;
  • Extrude holes in the finished cake;

Simple donuts donuts. Recipe for cooking at home

Surely you have already begun to drool, so let's start preparing this unusual overseas food. So, the list of ingredients for about 18 donuts:

  • 35 ml of white vinegar;
  • 100 ml of milk;
  • 30 g of margarine;
  • 110 g of sugar;
  • 1 egg;
  • ½ tsp. Vanillin;
  • 280 g of sifted flour;
  • ½ tsp. Soda;
  • 1/4 tsp. Salts;
  • 1 liter of refined vegetable oil;
  • 70 g of powdered sugar.

How are the donuts prepared?

Mix the vinegar with the milk and let stand for a few minutes, until it thickens.

In a medium-sized bowl, whip the room-temperature margarine and sugar until a uniform mass is formed. Mix the eggs and vanillin carefully. Sift together the flour, soda and salt. Gradually add it to the mixture of sugar and margarine, while pouring in the vinegar with milk. Knead the dough and roll it on the flour-covered board to a thickness of 7-8 mm. If you have a special cutter for donuts, then you can quickly form the workpiece. Here's how it looks (photo below).

If not - for the outer circle, take the cup, for the inner circle - cut the neck of any plastic bottle. Let stand for about 10 minutes.

In a large deep frying pan or saucepan, heat the oil to 190 degrees (if there is no kitchen thermometer, then know that the oil should boil violently). Fry the donuts to an even golden color, do not forget to turn it once. Debate by laying it on paper towels. Tear off the sugar powder while they are still warm, and serve immediately.

For a special splendor

And now tell you how to make donut donuts donuts. The recipe is also quite simple, but cooking them takes longer, as the dough takes time to rise twice.

Ingredients for 20 pieces:

  • 100 ml of warm water (approximately 40 - 45 degrees);
  • 7 g dry yeast ;
  • 150 ml of warm milk;
  • 55 g of margarine;
  • 45 g of sugar;
  • 5 g salt (3/4 tsp);
  • 1 egg;
  • 415 g of sifted flour;
  • 2 liters of refined vegetable oil;
  • 1 packet (2 g) of vanillin;
  • 105 g of powdered sugar.

Glaze:

  • ¾ tsp. Sahara;
  • 1 tbsp. water.

Cooking step by step

And now let's look at how yeast donuts are made:

  1. Pour warm water into a small bowl, pour the yeast and 1 tsp. Sahara. Allow the mixture to stand until it forms a creamy foam over the top - 5 - 10 minutes. At the same stage, you can make sure that the yeast is good and ensure proper germination.
  2. Pour the milk and margarine into a small saucepan and cook over medium heat until the margarine melts and the milk begins to give tiny bubbles around the edges. Remove the mixture from the plate.
  3. Sprinkle sugar and salt in a bowl, pour milk with margarine and whisk with a mixer at low speed, just to allow the sugar to dissolve. Lightly cool.
  4. Add the mixture to the mixture from the first step, egg and flour. Whisk at low speed until smooth. Then gradually add the remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  5. Continue to beat for 2-3 minutes. The resulting dough should begin to lag behind the edges of the bowl.
  6. Place it on a board of flour, and knead until it is smooth and elastic.
  7. Form the dough into a bowl and place in a large greased bowl, cover it with baking parchment. Put in a warm place. After 1-1.5 hours, the dough should increase 2 times.
  8. Again, place it on a board of flour and roll to a thickness of 1-1.5 cm. Cut the donuts with a 9 cm diameter cutter or as described in the previous recipe. Let the workpieces lie on the board from 40 minutes to an hour, so that they rise again, become airy and magnificent.
  9. Heat the oil in the deep fryer (if not, then in a large saucepan) to 175 degrees.
  10. Gently lower the donuts into a hot liquid, 2 to 3 pieces at a time, cook until they get a light golden color, be sure to turn over once, just cook for about 2 minutes.
  11. Place on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  12. In a bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of warm water, vanillin and sugar powder. Apply a thin layer of glaze on warm donuts.

Of course, a different approach is needed for mass production.
