What is a retention cyst?

Female genitals are quite complex and extensive system, which requires constant monitoring and control. Problems that arise in women are so diverse that the patient herself, in the face of ignorance, can not immediately seek help from a specialist, thereby aggravating her condition. Therefore, the purpose of articles on medical topics is to display the main features of a disease from an information point of view. The same article is intended to highlight the question, what is the retention cyst of the ovary and what are its features.

It is widely known that cysts often develop in the female body and, in particular, in the ovaries. Also, the cyst can occur in the cervix, in the large gland of the vaginal area and in many other organs.

If you classify all the ovarian cysts as a cause and method of occurrence, then they are distinguished by the following types:

  • Tumor;
  • Cysts caused by trauma;
  • Parasitic;
  • Retentional.

In this case, the retention cyst in the ovary is considered to be the easiest and occupies about 85% of the percentage (in frequency of occurrence) among all types of cystic changes in this organ.

Retinal formation of the right ovary can occur as often as the left one. It depends on the features of the ovaries and hereditary predisposition. The retention cyst (also called functional or follicular cyst) is a fluid, basically based formation that contains a secret. As a rule, retention cysts are formed in women of reproductive age. However, sometimes there are cases of cyst formation in newborn girls, as well as in women after the onset of menopause.

A feature of this type of cyst is that they are often one-sided. However, there are cases when a retention cyst occurs in both ovaries. This is already a complicated form, requiring special treatment. It is also important that these cysts never develop into a malignant tumor.

What are the peculiarities of retention cyst formation? First of all, we note that this cyst is the result of failures in the ovaries, which have a hormonal basis. In many ways, her education is affected by strong stress, overstrain, personal drama. These factors affect not only the psychological state of women, but also the problems in the menstrual cycle, and hence the functioning of the ovaries.

As a rule, the peculiarity of these cysts is that they do not give any special symptoms and do not cause painful sensations. When the cyst is small, its presence does not affect the health and well-being of a woman. The first signs appear only with the growth of the cyst. Then there is a traditional pain for all cysts in the lower part of the abdomen, as a rule, one-sided nature (it hurts the affected ovary).

If a woman exposes her body to excessive physical exertion, the pain and the feeling of heaviness inside exacerbate. Also, severe attacks of pain can be observed during / after sexual intercourse and sudden changes in body position. If you determine the period of the most severe pain, it falls on days after ovulation, which never happened.

Regarding treatment, it should be said that retention cysts tend to resolve without help during several menstrual cycles. In this case, the intake of vitamins, as well as medications that normalize the patient's psychological state, can be prescribed. Operative intervention becomes inevitable if complications arise (rupture of cysts, internal bleeding, twisting of the cyst leg).

As with any illness, an immediate call to a doctor will greatly facilitate the treatment and can help to avoid surgery! Take care of your health and be vigilant!
