Opera "Rigoletto": a short summary. Giuseppe Verdi, opera "Rigoletto"

Despite the fact that, since the creation of the opera, about 165 years have passed, "Rigoletto" continues to be popular among fans of art around the world.

History

Opera Verdi "Rigoletto" was created in the period from 1850 to 1851. During such a short period, Giuseppe managed to write his vision of the plays of Victor Hugo, which was called "The King is amused."

When the writer created his work, he was banned. French authorities felt that the story would undermine confidence in the court.

Verdi could also fall into disgrace. He had to change several characters. In particular, the king was replaced by the duke, and the clown became Rigoletto. The summary as a whole remained untouched. The composer was a fan of the work of Victor Hugo. He tried to retell the story as he sees her.

Francesco Maria Piave, an old friend of Verdi, undertook the creation of a libretto for Rigoletto. The summary is described below.

Initially it was planned that Rigoletto would become a beautiful hero, instead of an ugly jester.

For the first time this work was shown in Venice, in March 1851.

Adaptation

A representative of French Romanticism, Victor Hugo never sought to please the authorities and showed the life of ordinary people, with all the horrors and vices of poverty. Similarly, he was not afraid to describe the royal court. Opera Verdi "Rigoletto" excluded the mention of the monarch.

In his play, he not only showed fictional characters. Hugo took real people endowed with power, and placed in implausible situations. This impudent at the time the trick could not pass by the attention of dignitaries. She caused a whole series of scandals. "The King is amused" was banned from staging. Opera "Rigoletto" Verdi is not so politicized.

The main character of the story

Hugo departs from romantic images, beautiful young men at court. He creates an ugly dwarf, which became an allegory for all the political regime that existed at that time. The Jester, mocking the vices of the powerful of this world, could indeed exist in reality.

If it was not, then the courts of Louis the Twelfth and Francis First are absolutely real.

Tribula became a real legend. He was so often sung in ballads, stories were written about him, mentioned in proverbs and mysteries, that it is now difficult for scientists to judge what was all fiction and what was true. Was it also unclear.

Victor Hugo had his own view of this character. He gave the clown new character traits and made him the protagonist.

The main plot was built on the attempts of the court comedian to combine two different personalities. Under the king, he was a very audacious scoffer, who tried to amuse the master at any price. In everyday life Tribula seemed a kind, decent man with a big heart. He saw all the shortcomings of the domestic life of rich idlers and condemned them for it.

As a result, the jester falls into one of the cruel rallies of his master.

Hugo agreed to the production of the play, and it was shown in 1832 in a local theater. After the first viewing, the production was banned for mockery of the king's power.

But when the last monarch of France, Napoleon the Third, was dismissed, the play was allowed. Fifty years later, she returned to the theater without mentioning Rigoletto. The summary of the play also caused public controversy.

In the Russian Empire of that time, no one knew anything about this masterpiece of the French writer . The play was banned as one that could jeopardize the power of the emperor.

How the Verdi Opera "Rigoletto" was created: in the abbreviation

The Italian Verdi chose this literary hit after many years for his unusual images, bold statements, relevance. He tried to write an opera at a time when the play was still forbidden.

Verdi decided that the plot is just perfect for a musical production.

It was decided to change the pampered France to passionate Italy. The composer also cut the entire plot to fill the bulk with music.

When the opera figures the writer, Hugo did not like it. He noticed that Verdi had removed all political tragedy and focused on the history of the jester.

While Hugo in the play liked political hints, the musician preferred the romantic story of one person.

Verdi was going to call the opera "The Curse" because of the unhappy fate of Tribulus.

Censorship

There were difficulties for the composer and the theater administration, where the premiere of the opera was to be held for the first time. They did not like the fact that Rigoletto Verdi was not a classic handsome man, but a terrible hunchback. He replied that this image seemed to him the most attractive. Giuseppe really wanted to see how outwardly the ugly man will conquer everyone with his inner beauty.

The fight against censorship was manifested in the fact that Verdi refused to cut down the libretto, change the hunchback to a typical character, remove the monarch of Francis from the plot.

He began to look for theaters in which the opera could be staged. He was refused. Everyone wanted Verdi to remove allusions to the hard-heartedness of the authorities.

So the king became a duke, and Tribulus was named Rigoletto. The summary remained almost whole. The composer gave in to see his work on the stage. He could not wait as long as Hugo himself.
