How to use a fillet? Is it easy or difficult?

The fillet is a ceiling skirting that is used by professional builders to close the gap formed between the ceiling and the top of the wallpaper. For the manufacture of such plinth, foam and polyurethane serve as the material. The color of the fillet is originally white, and the making of other shades by the manufacturers is not provided. On sale, it comes in elements having a length of 1.5-2 meters and a width of 20-80 mm.

Determination of the required quantity and purchase

Before buying a fillet in the store, you need to decide on its quantity. You can calculate it easily and easily, as it is pasted around the perimeter of the room, and to obtain the necessary data you only need to calculate the total length digit. It is more expedient to buy a two-meter long fillet. This will avoid a large number of joints. In addition, as a stock, you must purchase one or two additional poles. Buying fillets ceiling, without fail choose them from one supplied by the manufacturer of the batch. Made of granular foam plastic is not worth buying, because over time it will shrink, and at the junctions, crevices form. Immediately on the spot discard the fillet, which has dents and scratches.

Additional materials for fillet

In the meantime, you need to buy the tools and glue you need. We will need a tape measure, an assembly knife , a plaster band and a stool. The last of these devices will greatly facilitate the cutting of the plinth under the appropriate joints by the corners. The plinth of the fillet is glued to a special polymer glue of transparent or white color, and, as a rule, the difference is only in the manufacturer and the price.

We begin to work with a fillet

To determine the primary side of the gluing, one fillet should be attached to the ceiling. This will help you choose the most convenient point. It is necessary to make sure that it covers the existing gap of the edges of the wallpaper and ceiling. Before gluing, it is recommended to practice cutting angles, which should be 45 °. It is for these purposes that a stool is acquired. For educational purposes, use trimming, and if they get the right result, they can be used as templates. Having received joints of internal corners, it is possible to be engaged directly in gluing of a plinth. In the beginning, we fix one part of the available segments, and then we join the second with it. The glue is applied in narrow strips, closer to the middle, on both surfaces of the fillet, as one presses against the ceiling, the other against the wall. Before gluing, wait two to three minutes, as in most other adhesives. If the glue is applied too thick, it is possible to produce excess outward. To remove them, use a dry soft rag. Most likely, in the process of work there will be cracks in the joints, but there is nothing to worry about. They are easily sealed using a white silicone sealant or the same glue. If there are still gaps of a sufficiently large size, then they are caulked by fitting the strips of available scraps.

Reminder

It should be remembered that the fillet is a soft material, and do not get carried away by strong pressure on it, as there will be dents. In addition, clean hands are required for work: because of the white color of the skirting, there is a risk of staining dirt on its surface.
