Veigela in the Moscow region landing and care: species and varieties

One of the representatives of the family of honeysuckle is a beautiful deciduous shrub called Weigel. In the suburbs, planting and caring for it requires certain knowledge, since in these climatic conditions, it is more difficult for heat-loving plants to survive.

general characteristics

In nature, this shrub occurs mainly in the eastern and southeastern parts of Asia, as well as in the Far East. In total, there are 15 species of Vaigels, 7 of which are common as a culture. Their height varies, depending on the variety, but on average is about two meters. The shrub is erect, with opposite on the branches velvety leaves with serrate edges, dark green color.

By its flowering veygel can delight twice a season - at the beginning and end of summer. During this period the bush is covered with large funnel-shaped flowers, similar to bells. They are located singly or in groups of several pieces, forming a loose inflorescence. Coloring of flowers can be different - red, pink, yellow, cream or white. It is interesting that it is not always the same. Only opened corollas are pale, but gradually they acquire a bright and rich color.

This shrub can look spectacular in any part of the garden. Thanks to varieties that are resistant to cold, the decoration of many sites serves as a wagel in the suburbs. Planting and care, species and peculiarities of cultivation - all this we will discuss in this article.

Suitable conditions

First of all, you need to choose the right place for planting. It is important to observe the following conditions:

  • The soil must be neutral or limestone, necessarily water permeable.
  • The plot needs to be selected well illuminated by the sun, only a light penumbra is allowed.

Stagnant water, lack of light can depress the plant.

Vejgel in the suburbs

Planting and caring for this plant will give excellent results, if not mistaken with the choice of the variety that is most adapted to climatic conditions. The shrub in this case will keep its shape for many years. For cultivation in the suburbs, the following varieties are suitable:

  • Weigel Middendorf is a short shrub whose height barely reaches one and a half meters. Has the longest flowering period (almost a month) and prefers moist peaty soils. Leaves almost up to October retain their color. Bell-shaped flowers have a yellow or cream color.

  • Weigel is one of the most beautiful species. The height of the plant is from 150 to 250 cm. The bush is very lush, in the period of two weeks flowering it is first covered with purple buds, which gradually turn into bright pink or purple funnel-shaped flowers. Leaves in summer have a bright green color, and closer to the autumn they acquire a brownish hue. Due to its unpretentiousness, this is the most common wagel in the suburbs. Planting and caring for her do not require much effort.
  • Weigel garden is native to the deciduous forests of Japan. The height of this shrub is about a meter. It features a garden garden with an unusual coloring of flowers (pinkish-carmine), which cover the bush very abundantly.

Landing rules

Planted in autumn, plants can die before they can survive. Therefore, the most suitable time for planting is spring. It is best to purchase three-year seedlings, they adapt more quickly. The place for the wiggles is chosen well illuminated by the sun and sheltered from the wind. This shrub prefers fertile soil, which must be carefully loosened after each irrigation, not allowing its compaction. After the place is chosen, it is required that the plant with the name of the wigel is properly planted and maintained. In the Moscow suburbs, the competent implementation of these measures is of special importance in connection with lower winter temperatures.

A pit of about 50 cm deep is prepared in advance. At the bottom of it is poured a layer of sand or gravel, which will perform a drainage function to protect the root system from decay. It is important that the distance between the bushes distance is not less than two meters.

Root before planting is recommended to process the stimulator, then gently place the seedling in the hole and sprinkle with the prepared soil mixture. It is made up of sand, turf and humus (in a ratio of 2: 2: 1). As a fertilizer, you can add potassium salt and superphosphate (40 and 60 grams, respectively, per one well). It is necessary to mulch the soil in a half meter around the seedling, pouring for it a layer of 10 cm of sawdust, bark of trees or peat.

Care

Although some varieties of shrubs are unpretentious, nevertheless the wagel sometimes behaves capriciously in the Moscow suburbs. Planting and care, the rules of growing plants - this knowledge will help to avoid many problems associated with such a thermophilic culture.

After each watering (and it is required to be carried out regularly, especially in the dry period), the soil must be loosened. It must always be moist, and mulching will help protect it from drying out.

Top dressing is done several times during the season. In the spring, to restore the plant after frost, the bush needs a complex mineral fertilizer. Before flowering it must be fed with double phosphate with potassium sulfate (30 g each per bucket of water). In autumn, potassium-phosphoric fertilizing is introduced to prepare the plant for winter.

Reproduction

When the planted bush turns into flying in a beautiful flowering sphere, there is a desire to place a few more such plants on the site. It is not difficult to do this, because there are several ways to multiply the wiggles .

With the help of cuttings - the most common way that the wagel can reproduce in the suburbs. Planting and caring for seedlings in this case is not very difficult. In April, green shoots (5 mm thick and 20 cm long) are cut at right angles, processed by a growth stimulator and placed in a warm and dark room for 12 hours. Then planted in the soil mixture to a depth of 10 cm under a polyethylene film. Watering is done daily. After 25-40 days, roots appear. The plant can be transplanted permanently to the next year.

To plant the seeds, they must be collected and sowed in a prepared box with soil, sprinkled with a layer of sand and cover with glass, maintaining a certain moisture. Shoots appear after about 3 weeks.

Often, gardeners are selected for reproduction by means of layers. The lower branch of the bush is tilted to the ground, treated with a stimulant and buried. After a while, the brood takes root, in a year it can be transplanted to a new location.

Preparing for winter

It is not entirely true to believe that the most important thing necessary to get a wagel in the Moscow region is planting and leaving. The process of survival of this plant in winter largely depends on the quality of its preparation for frost. This is especially important for young bushes. They can be covered with lapnik or special material. A tall bush should be tied up and spread around the trunk with a thick layer of straw or lapnik.

Diseases and pests

Of insect pests, the danger for the terrestrial part of the veygel is represented by caterpillars, aphids, spider mites. To control them, spraying with insecticides is carried out. The roots can damage the larvae of the May beetle, as well as those caught in the landing pit of the bear. Therefore, at the first signs of the withering of the seedling, the soil around it must be shed with a solution of carbophos.

If all the rules for growing such a decorative shrub as a veigel in the Moscow area (planting and care, photos of plants and ways of its reproduction - all of which are presented in the article), you can create beautiful compositions even on a small garden plot.
