The motorway is ... Traffic on the motorway

On the special high-speed sections of the roads, there are rules for the movement of public transport. Almost every driver knows that a motorway is a section of a roadway intended for driving cars at high speed. At its level, it has no intersections with other roads, roads and passages for pedestrians.

The motorway is defined by not less than two lanes to each side of the traffic and a wide roadside for emergency stops of transport. Between each other, the roads in opposite directions are separated by special barriers (concrete blocks, metal structures, grids, bumpers or other structures). At the beginning and at the end of this roadway there are special lanes providing for acceleration and braking of transport.

Road sign

Speedway requires compliance with certain rules that every driver of a vehicle should know. They begin to act immediately after the sign "Motorway", it is designated by the numbering 5.1 in the rules of the road. It can be distinguished by two separated white strips on a green background and a bridge over them.

The end of the high-speed section of the roadway is marked with the same sign, but crossed out with a red strip along the diagonal. It is numbered 5.2 in the rules of the road and is referred to as the "End of the Motorway". The green color of the road sign is used only for high-speed sections of the road, which excludes the possibility of confusing it with some other.

Restrictions on entry

Traffic on the motorway requires the drivers of vehicles of increased attention, especially because of the high speed of the flow of machines. Not all vehicles are allowed to travel on this section of the road. Movement restrictions apply to:

  • Animals and pedestrians;
  • Cyclists;
  • Mopeds;
  • Self-propelled vehicles and tractors;
  • Carts of any kind;
  • Any transport, whose speed can not exceed 40 km / h;
  • Heavy weight, whose mass is more than 3.5 tons;
  • To any transport, moving for the purpose of training.

Go to the other side of pedestrians and animals can be on special transitions, located strictly under the ground or over the roadway.

The basic rules that must be followed when driving on the expressway

The motorway is a section of the road where the speed allowed by the rules is 110 km / h, in other countries this value may increase up to 150 km / h. A car with a trailer must travel at a speed of 90 km / h. For transport, in the body of which are people, the speed limit is not more than 60 km / h. If a motorway is towed by any type of vehicle, then the speed should be 50 km / h.

The motorway is a route where drivers of vehicles are forbidden to move in reverse and make stops outside special places, which are indicated by signs. Public transport stops at all. It is also impossible to unfold and enter technological gaps. Exceptions are only transport communal and road services, equipped with orange beacons, as well as cars with special signals.

The motorway is a high-speed road, during which the driver is required to keep the vehicle closer to the right edge. This is spelled out in the rules of the road under paragraph 9.4. Its compliance is not affected by the location of the roadway and the presence of settlements that meet along the road.

The first world highways: a historical reference

For the first time in the world such a section of the road was opened in Italy on September 21, 1924. Its length was about 85 km. The first motorway connected the cities of Varese and Milan. In this country, over the next fifteen years, another five hundred kilometers of high-speed road sections were built.

Later, such a freeway appeared in Germany, and after the end of World War II, the construction of these highways were engaged in the UK and France. After 1950, high-speed roads began to actively appear in the United States of America.

By 2015, China has become the leader among all countries in the overall kilometer and highway construction speed. This is a network of roads, which totaled 111950 kilometers. Almost half of them were created during the last five years.

In the Russian Federation, there are very few trails. Their construction began back in the days of the Soviet Union, but is still rather poorly developed.

Highway construction

The creation of a high-speed section of the route requires large financial investments. One kilometer of high-speed highway in Germany costs about 27 million euros, the price in our country is approximately comparable. Expenditures for the construction of the road itself constitute only a quarter of the total number of costs, that is, about 7 million euros.

The main costs occur during the planning and obtaining of construction permits. Only independent examinations require almost 6 million euros, and official checks and official opinions cost about ten million in the same currency. Another 5 million euros are required for related elements, for example, road signs, landscaping, traffic control systems, the erection of noise barriers, etc.

Motorways in the Russian Federation

The main high-speed sections of roads begin in Moscow and belong to federal routes. The sign "motorway" in our country can be found on the following roads:

  • M2 "Crimea";
  • M4 "Don";
  • WHSD (St. Petersburg);
  • M9 "The Baltics";
  • M11 Moscow - St. Petersburg;
  • KAD (St. Petersburg);
  • P384 (Kemerovo Region).

Small sections with a permitted high speed also exist on other roads. If you say in your own words what a highway in the Russian Federation is, it is a section of a road with a high speed of traffic and its own rules. They must be respected for their own and others' security. Therefore, every driver of the vehicle should be extremely careful while driving on the highway.
