"The Hobbit, or There and Back": a brief summary. "The Hobbit, or There and Back": an analysis of the characters

The author of the book is the English writer John Ronald Ruel Tolkien, also known for a number of other works that together form one big universe: "The Lord of the Rings", "The Silmarillion", "The Children of Hurin" and many others. Despite the fact that they were written in the beginning of the 20th century, they still have not lost their relevance. They are read by many to this day. "The Hobbit" ("Journey back and forth") is just a small part of a huge legendarium, which strikes its scale. Sometimes it's hard to imagine that this could all be invented by one person.

"Hobbit, or There and Back": a summary

The book tells how a small creature - a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins - lives peacefully and calmly in his burrow in the Hobbitany, in a village called Shir. One day a powerful magician named Gandalf the Gray (who is one of the key figures in the Tolkien universe) comes to visit him. He saw in a young hobbit a craving for adventure and travel. Friendship between them began. And one day to the threshold of Bilbo comes a detachment of gnomes, which is headed by a runaway king Thorin Duboshchit. Gandalf persuaded the dwarves without Bilbo's knowledge to take him on their hike. The goal was to return the lost kingdom of the goblins Erebor, which was captured by the evil dragon Smaug.

At first Bilbo was indignant and flatly refused to take part in this matter. However, he unexpectedly agreed and assumed the role of scout and scout. Heroes go on a long and dangerous path. First they walked through the mountains, where they were almost eaten by goblins, who had a kingdom there. They were attacked by evil beings - orcs. After that they escape from the giant wolves - the Vargs. Pass a forest in which they are waiting for giant spiders. However, thanks to the abilities of the magician and intelligence Bilbo, the detachment always gets out of any trouble. Heroes even escape from the prison of the forest elves, where they are imprisoned for crossing without the demand of the elven border.

Wandering through the caves in the mountains, the hobbit finds a small ring, which he does not hesitate to hide in his pocket. Bilbo meets a strange creature - Gollum, who leads a wild life and eats fish and carrion. It wants to kill and eat Bilbo, but instead the characters play puzzles, and if the hobbit wins, Gollum will show him the way out of the cave. Bilbo wins, and as it turns out, the ring knows how to make anyone invisible. Gollum had previously owned it, so he thinks that the ring was stolen by Bilbo, and tries to find him. But Bilbo is invisible and found a way out.

Here's the detachment and the goal. Bilbo enters Erebor, who is in Lonely Mountain, but the dragon wakes up without finding a scout (after all, there was a ring on Bilbo), comes out of the mountain and attacks the nearest town - Ozerny. However, one of its inhabitants - Bard Luchnik - kills Smaug, getting a big arrow to him in an unprotected place on his stomach. At this time the gnomes enter Erebor and return it to themselves, appropriating all the treasures stored there.

But the city residents want to get damages, so go to the gate of Erebor, hoping to take some of the treasure yourself. There is also a team of elves coming up. Thorin, seeing this, calls to himself all the dwarves who once lived in Erebor and were saved when the dragon attacked the kingdom. They build defense and prepare for battle. But it begins in a different way - a large army of orcs approaches the mountain, who, having learned of the death of the dragon, also wanted to take their riches to themselves. People, elves and gnomes unite against a new threat and repel an orc attack, but Torin dies in battle.

Bilbo after these events receives a piece of treasure, returns with Gandalf home and continues to live the same life. He writes a book about his adventures, which later will be called Scarlet.

This is how you can convey a summary. "The Hobbit, or There and Back" - the book is dynamic, saturated with a lot of events that change each other, as in a kaleidoscope, but there is no discomfort when reading, as the author managed to harmoniously assemble them.
