Pierre Bezukhov: Characteristics of the character. The life path, the path of searching for Pierre Bezukhov

One of the main characters of the epic "Warrior and Peace" - Pierre Bezukhov. Characterization of the character of the work is revealed through his actions. And also through the thoughts, spiritual quest of the main characters. The image of Pierre Bezukhov allowed Tolstoy to convey to the reader an understanding of the meaning of the epoch of that time, of all human life.

Acquaintance of the reader with Pierre

The image of Pierre Bezukhov briefly described and understood is very difficult. The reader must go through with the hero all his life's path.

Acquaintance with Pierre is attributed to the novel by 1805. He appears on a secular reception at Anna Pavlovna Scherer, a Moscow high-ranking lady. By that time the young man had not imagined anything interesting for the secular public. He was illegitimate son of one of Moscow's nobles. I got a good education abroad, but when I returned to Russia, I could not find an application. Idle way of life, sprees, idleness, dubious companies led to the fact that Pierre was deported from the capital. With this life baggage, he appears in Moscow. In turn, the higher world also does not attract a young man. He does not share petty interests, selfishness, hypocrisy of his representatives. "Life is something deeper, more significant, but unknown to him," thinks Pierre Bezukhov. The "war and peace" of Leo Tolstoy helps to understand this to the reader.

Moscow life

The change of residence did not affect the image of Pierre Bezukhov. By nature, he is a very gentle person, easily falls under someone else's influence, doubts about the correctness of his actions constantly pursue him. Imperceptibly for himself, he finds himself in captivity in an idle social life with her temptations, feasts and bouts.

After the death of Count Bezukhov, Pierre becomes heir to the title and the whole state of his father. The attitude of society towards a young man is changing dramatically. The famous Moscow nobleman Vasily Kuragin, in pursuit of the condition of the young count, gives him his beautiful daughter, Helen, for him. This marriage did not foreshow a happy family life. Very soon, Pierre understands the insidiousness, falsity of his wife, her debauchery becomes obvious to him. Thoughts about the scorned honor do not give him rest. In a state of rage, he commits an act that could prove fatal. Fortunately, the duel with Dolohov ended in injury to the offender, and Pierre's life was out of danger.

The path of searching for Pierre Bezukhov

After the tragic events, the young count thinks more and more about how he spends his days in his life. Everything around is confusing, disgusting and meaningless. He understands that all secular rules and norms of conduct are insignificant in comparison with something great, mysterious, unknown to him. But Pierre does not have enough strength of mind and knowledge to discover this great, to find the true destiny of human life. Meditations did not leave the young man, making his life unbearable. A brief description of Pierre Bezukhov gives the right to say that it was a deep, thinking person.

Passion for Freemasonry

After parting with Helen and giving her a large share of the fortune, Pierre decides to return to the capital. On the way from Moscow to St. Petersburg, during a short stop, he meets a man who talks about the existence of the fraternity of Freemasons. Only they know the true path, they are subject to the laws of being. For the tormented soul and consciousness of Pierre, this meeting, he believed, was salvation.

Arriving in the capital, he, without hesitation, accepts the rite and becomes a member of the Masonic lodge. The rules of another world, his symbolism, his views on life drag Pierre. He unreservedly believes everything he hears at meetings, although much of his new life seems to him gloomy and incomprehensible. The path of searching for Pierre Bezukhov continues. The soul is still rushing and does not find peace.

How to make people's life easier

New experiences and searches for the meaning of life lead Pierre Bezukhov to the understanding that the life of an individual can not be happy, when there are many people who are deprived of their rights, around them.

He decides to take action aimed at improving the life of the peasants in their estates. Many do not understand Pierre. Even among the peasants, for the sake of which all this was started, there is a misunderstanding, an aversion to a new way of life. This discourages Bezukhov, he is depressed, disappointed.

Disappointment was final, when Pierre Bezukhov (whose description describes him as a soft, trusting person) realized that he had been cruelly deceived by the manager, the means and efforts were blown into the wind.

Napoleon

The alarming events taking place in France at that time occupied the minds of the entire high society. The coming to power of Napoleon stirred the consciousness of the youth and the elderly. For many young people, the image of the great emperor became an ideal. Pierre Bezukhov admired his successes, victories, he idolized the personality of Napoleon. I did not understand people who dared to resist a talented military leader, a great revolution. There was a moment in Pierre's life when he was ready to swear to Napoleon and stand up for the gains of the revolution. But this was not meant to happen. Feats, achievements for the glory of the French Revolution remained only dreams.

And the events of 1812 will destroy all ideals. The adoration of Napoleon's personality will be replaced in the soul of Pierre by contempt and hatred. There will be an irresistible desire to kill the tyrant, avenging all the ills that he brought to his native land. The idea of reprisal against Napoleon Pierre was simply obsessed, he believed that this is a predestination, the mission of his life.

battle of Borodino

The Patriotic War of 1812 broke the established order, becoming a real test for the country and its citizens. This tragic event directly affected and Pierre. A purposeless life in wealth, convenience was left without hesitation by the count for the sake of serving the fatherland.

It was in the war that Pierre Bezukhov, whose characterization had not been flattering before, began to look at life differently, to understand what was unknown. The rapprochement with soldiers, representatives of the common people, helps to reassess life.

A special role in this was played by the great battle of Borodino. Pierre Bezukhov, being in the same ranks with the soldiers, saw their true patriotism without hypocrisy and controversy, a readiness without hesitation for the sake of his country to give his life.

Destruction, blood, fear, death and related experiences give rise to the spiritual rebirth of the hero. Suddenly, unexpectedly for himself, Pierre begins to find answers to questions that have plagued him for so many years. Everything becomes extremely clear and simple. He begins to live not formally, but with all his heart, experiencing, an unfamiliar feeling, the explanation of which at that moment can not yet be given.

Captivity

Further events unfold in such a way that the trials that fell to Pierre's share must temper, finally form his views.

Once in captivity, he undergoes an interrogation procedure, after which he remains alive, but before his very eyes he executes several Russian soldiers, who together with him were taken to the French. The spectacle of execution does not leave Pierre's imagination, leading him to the brink of insanity.

And only the meeting and conversations with Platon Karataev again awaken in his soul a harmonious beginning. Being in a close barrack, experiencing physical pain and suffering, the hero begins to feel himself a truly happy person. The life path of Pierre Bezukhov helps to understand that being on earth is a great happiness.

However, the hero more than once will have to reconsider his attitude to life and seek his place in it.

Fate decides that Platon Karataev, who gave Pierre an understanding of life, was killed by the French, because he was ill and could not move. The death of Karataev brings new suffering to the hero. Pierre himself was released from captivity by partisans.

Native

Freed from captivity, Pierre, one by one, receives news from relatives, about whom he did not know anything for a long time. He becomes aware of the death of his wife Helen. The best friend, Andrei Bolkonsky, was seriously wounded.

The death of Karataev, the alarming news from his relatives again exasperate the hero's soul. He starts to think that all the misfortunes happened because of his fault. He is the cause of the death of his relatives.

And suddenly Pierre catches himself on the thought that in the difficult moments of emotional experiences the image of Natasha Rostova unexpectedly comes. It gives him peace, strength and confidence.

Natasha Rostova

At subsequent meetings with her, he realizes that he had a feeling for this sincere, intelligent, rich woman spiritually. Natasha's response flashes to Pierre. In 1813 they were married.

Rostov is capable of sincere love, she is ready to live the interests of her husband, to understand and feel him - this is the main advantage of a woman. Tolstoy showed the family as a way of preserving a person's peace of mind . The family is a small model of the world. The health of this cell depends on the state of the whole society.

Life goes on

The hero has acquired an understanding of life, happiness, harmony within himself. But the way to this was very difficult. The work of the inner development of the soul throughout his life accompanied the hero, and she gave her results.

But life does not stop, and Pierre Bezukhov, whose character as a seeker is given here, is again ready to move forward. In 1820 he informs his wife that he intends to become a member of a secret society.
