But in the active care of this man Ilinsky was enticed by something else, namely, the desire to assert itself. She was a young woman, although very active. And the ability to influence a person older than her, to change his way of life and thoughts, was an extraordinary inspiration to the girl.

The relationship between Oblomov and Ilyinsky could not have a future. He needed a calm quiet care, which he received as a child. And she was frightened by indecision.
