Temple of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhskaya Sloboda: photos of tourists

The heavenly blue temple of Sergius of Radonezh in the Rogozhskaya Sloboda has long pleased the eyes of anyone passing through the old Vladimir tract, now called the Highway of the Enthusiasts.

Rogozhskaya Sloboda

In 1625 the church in the name of the Trinity Zhivonachalnaya already stood on this place. His parishioners were coachmen who lived here in the Rogozhskaya Sloboda. During the invasion of the French, the temple of Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhsky, like the whole settlement, burned out. In 1816 the parishioners appealed to the Holy Synod with a request to dismantle the dilapidated church and build a new church. Permission was received and soon the first building stone was laid in the future temple of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhskaya Sloboda.

The beginning of the restoration of the shrine

The church counselor Gavriil Petrovich Smoliansky, especially the church elder, paid special attention to God's temple, invested all his money savings for this charitable event. But the church did not have time to build, as in 1834 it burned down. However, the church utensils and sacred vessels were saved. Reconstructed the temple of Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhskaya Sloboda by the project of the famous architect of the recognized master of the Empire style, Fyodor Mikhailovich Shestakov. On February 17, 1838, the church was consecrated by Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, St. Philaret Drozdov.

Palekh Church Painting

The three-tier bell tower was built later, in 1864. In 1876, the temple was painted by the famous Moscow icon painter Andrey Semenovich Rogozhkin, as they said, in the "Old Orthodox Orthodox style." Now this style of art is defined as Palekh. Since the Old Believers lived in the Rogozhskaya Sloboda, they tried to attract them to Orthodoxy. Icons of ancient writing were bought into the temple, if they bought new ones, then they were stylized during the 15-16th centuries. It was said that the temple in the Rogozhskaya Sloboda, according to the collection of remarkable ancient icons, could be compared even with the Kremlin shrines. In November 1899, a special place for conversations with the Old Believers, for religious reading and spiritual concerts was consecrated in the Sergius Church. Special notes were prepared for a wonderful choir of the blind, which was considered one of the best in Moscow.

Atheistic Bacchanalia

Revolution and rampant militant atheism crossed all the centuries-old works on the improvement of the temple. In 1937, after the arrest of the abbot and active parishioners, newly-born atheists chopped ancient icons with axes. Books and church decorations were burned at the stake. Destroyers of temples did not hesitate to burn priceless notes for the blind. What was created and acquired with love and patience for centuries, perished in a few hours in atheistic bacchanalia. I managed to save only a few ancient icons. One of them is the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Soothe My Sorrows", which was transferred to the church of St. Nicholas in Kuznets, which is still there.

Soviet past

Since the late fifties of the twentieth century, the temple of Sergius of Radonezh in the Rogozhskaya Sloboda was used as workshops and warehouses. At the end of the 1970s, sparks of welding were already scattered in the central side-chapel, workers, babbling and smoking cigarettes, welded the details of the monument to Gagarin, who now stands on Leninsky Prospekt in Moscow. Here, shower cabins were installed, where people washed themselves after work. Then no one knew and did not think that all this is happening literally on the graves and bones of the people shot. The terrible truth about what was going on in the house of God until the fifties was learned only when the temple of Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhskaya Sloboda was handed over to believers, and only then a serious restoration began.

Scary Finds

The restorers of the temple descended into the cellars, and what they saw shook them to the core. Stacks of folded bones, lightly sprinkled with sand, and in the turtles - bullet holes. After a request to the relevant competent authorities, it was possible to establish that the temple of St. Sergius of Radonezh in the Rogozhskaya Sloboda, for which the State Councilor G.P. Smoliansky had spent all his fortune, so that the descendants had spiritual joy and consolation, were turned into a proving ground for carrying out sentences. The bones of sufferers were buried according to the Christian custom. Above the common grave a cross was erected, on which it is written: "They were tortured to receive the Resurrection". Memorial services are regularly performed on the grave.

Innocently slain

In the church, the New Martyrs are commemorated, whose fate was directly connected with the history of the church. From 1916 to 1918 in the temple served as a psalm-reader, the Holy Martyr Joseph Schensnovich, who was shot in 1937. One of the reasons for the shooting was the witness's testimony that Diacon Schensnovic is forcing his children to attend the church. PriestMartyr Constantine Gusev from 1921 to 1927 served as deacon in this church, and from 1927 to 1934 as a priest, was shot in 1937. In the same year of 1937, they were arrested and executed:

• Ipodjakon Victor Frolov.

• Yard cleaner Ivan Rybin.

• Songwriter Elizaveta Kuranova.

• Songwriter Nikolay Kuzmin.

The electrician of the church, Ivan Malyshev, was arrested and died in the camps. The investigation could not find any serious evidence against these people. All the deeds were fabricated on the testimony of perjurers. Their fault was only in the confession of their faith.

The last abbot

In the cathedral of the Russian New Martyrs and Confessors, the latter is also remembered before the closing of the rector of the church, Protopriest Peter Nikotin. Among the charges filed to Father Peter were complaints of one citizen who was refused communion on the grounds that she did not know who Christ was, but she knew perfectly well who Lenin was. The paid informer left for the history of the words of the PriestMartyr Peter: "Without Christ, a person can not live, where there is no Christ, there are swearing, fights, quarrels. There is no more shame and honor. " The same informant accused Father Peter of preaching the church as the only place to save the human soul. Father Peter was shot along with his parishioners at the Butovo range and buried in an unknown common grave. In the temple there is his icon, as well as his image written in the central side-chapel.

Revival of the Shrine

December 4, 1991 was a real holiday for the whole of Russian Orthodoxy. Bishop Solnechnogorsky Sergius Fomin held a small consecration of the temple. Since that time, the revival of the shrine began. After several years of hard work, the chapels of St. Sergius of Radonezh and Nicholas the Wonderworker were completely restored. Ancient painting again shines with bright colors. However, until the completion of all the work is still very far. Very often, everything is not enough money, so the restoration work has to be frozen. According to the old photographs, the main iconostasis is being restored. The miracle almost completely preserved the holy icon of Seraphim of Swarovski, which is written on the wall of the temple. Many fragments of the painting have to be reconstructed.

Special molebns for pregnant women

What else is the temple of Sergius of Radonezh in Rogozhskaya Sloboda known for? Baptism of the child, special prayers for pregnant women, holding of Christian holidays and ceremonies are all available to those who want to visit this holy place. Moleben for pregnant women in the church in the Rogozhskaya Sloboda is held every Sunday at 13-00. After the service, each young mother can stay and ask her question to the priest. Sergievsky temple in the Rogozhskaya Sloboda is always glad to see new people in its place.

Saints of the image

Through the efforts of the parishioners, the shrine is gradually replenished with shrines. While there are not many of them, they are more expensive for believing hearts. Among them:

• An ancient icon of St. Nicholas the Miracle-Worker with hallmarks of life.

• Read the list of the icon of the Mother of God "Get out of my sorrows", an exact copy of the one that used to be in the temple.

• Icon of the righteous John of the Kronstadt Miracle-Worker with a particle of hair.

• A piece of the cross of the Lord's tree, which is stored in the altar and is carried out for the worship of believers on holidays.

• The icon of the Mother of God, which originally belonged to the temple, was found among the garbage when the church was handed over to the believers.

• The icon of the Holy Trinity hung on the facade of the altar part of the church all the godless years. Now it is restored and occupies an honorable place at the main altar, and in its place a mosaic copy is made.

In the chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, there is an ark with particles of the relics of God's saints: St. John Chrysostom, St. Basil the Great, the Great Martyr George the Victorious, martyr Tryphon, John the warrior, St. Sergius of Radonezh, St. Seraphim of Sarov, healer Panteleimon, and many others. Near the ark is an icon on which all these saints of God are depicted.
