Strict diet and starvation - good or bad?

One morning, standing on the scales, you decided that you must definitely lose weight. There are only 2 cardinal methods of getting rid of extra pounds - starvation and a strict diet. Everyone is accustomed to hunger for a certain time, then lose weight, the body will be cleansed of toxins and toxins. Let's try to understand: are fasting and strict diets healthy for our health?

In medical practice, two types of curative fasting are used: periodic and complete. Periodic fasting means giving up food for one day, that is, it is a day of rest for the body. This starvation does not cause significant harm, however, and the effect is very small: no one has lost weight by starving 1 day a week or a month. If a person starves longer and without medical supervision, then there may be huge health problems, up to the threat of life. With complete starvation, very obese people lose 1.5-3 kilograms per week.

The starvation we have become popular is due to the fashionable hobbies of Eastern religions and yoga in the 80s of the 20th century. But no one for some reason does not pay attention to the fact that yogis have long prepared the body for this great stress, eating food saturated with vitamins, nutritional elements.

There is a large number of indications for use in fasting medical practice, however, there is also a large number of contraindications. Extremely bad is fasting for people with tuberculosis, thyroid diseases, digestive tract, increased excitability. Fasting has a large number of side effects that are life threatening. Besides, fasting is an unpleasant, rather painful process.

The most dangerous form of fasting is dry: a person refuses also from the use of liquid, which causes the accumulation of toxic substances that are eliminated during normal starvation with a liquid.

Regular fasting causes the emergence of neuro-psychic anorexia, in which there is a complete loss of appetite, it is also possible to refuse food deliberately because of obsessive fear of getting better.

To date, nutritionists are advised to abandon starvation (slimming remedies) completely and choose a properly selected, balanced diet to reduce weight. Of course, the effect will be achieved over a longer period, however, in favorable conditions for the body. And most importantly, the results will last much longer.

A strict diet differs from fasting in that it is allowed to receive 50-100 kcal with food daily. The menu is obtained with a very limited set of products, meager. A strict diet does not cause serious harm to health only the first 2 weeks. But is it necessary? Despite the prevailing opinion, a strict diet has very little effect.

Short-term, as well as a set of products that are not used to the digestive tract, which, unfortunately, allow it to be used, unfortunately, do not create conditions for the normalization of eating habits, and accordingly, the weight lost during the diet will return very soon.

The main reason for weight loss with a strict diet is a rapid decrease in the body content of water and glycogen, as well as a small amount of protein, which causes a 3-5 kg weight loss for the first week, and then 2 to 3 kg after the second week . But after replenishing the lack of glycogen and water, the weight lost is returned. In addition, after such a strict diet, people eat intensively, which causes an even greater delay in fat stores, and thus, weight gain.
Remember, no strict diet will not help you lose weight for a long time, but you can significantly spoil your health.
