June 12 What holiday? What is celebrated on June 12 in Russia

Ironically, the holiday of June 12, the Day of Russia, is the youngest in our state. Strictly speaking, this is a holiday dedicated to the adoption of the Declaration on the Sovereignty of Russia, which was signed on June 12, 1990.

Prerequisites

We all know that in the early 1990s there was a breakdown of the Soviet Union. Business to that also went. Already in the late 80's. It was clear that the Union could not be maintained. The republic fled the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union survived the last days.

A significant day

Today Russia is given great importance, but it was not always so, about the holiday on June 12 Until 1994, no one particularly remembered.

Officially, this day was officially celebrated only in 1994, when Boris Yeltsin signed a decree appointing June 12 the Day of adoption of the declaration on the state sovereignty of Russia, at which time this day was a day off. The name of the holiday - "Day of Russia" - took root not immediately. It should be noted that on June 12, 1991 Boris Yeltsin became the first popularly elected president, so he immortalized not only an important date in the history of the state, but also a memory of himself.

Events for the Day of Russia

The main joy of the Day of Russia for ordinary citizens of the country is in additional rest, because this day is the red day of the calendar. Although a few years ago not all Russians knew on June 12 what holiday they are celebrating. Many prefer to spend time in nature, especially if the weather has this. If you could not get out on the nature, then you can take part in recreational activities, which every year more and more are held on this day.

Russia celebrates its own day on June 12. What a holiday without a public celebration? As for Moscow, on this day not only entertaining shows and concert programs are traditionally held, but also sports events. For example, on Pushkin Square. Cultural events are held in the centers of culture and art, museums, parks, for example, in Victory Park on Poklonnaya Hill, in Perovsky Park. Participation in the celebration is taken by athletes, Russian pop stars, and numerous folk groups. The President of Russia on this day conducts the awarding of state prizes of the Russian Federation. The action concludes with grandiose salutes on the Vasilyevsky descent, in the Izmaylovsky park, on Vorobyovy gory and other places.

Popularity among the people

Despite the policy of popularizing the holiday, not all Russians know June 12, what a holiday. "Levada-Center" conducted the appropriate survey. Opinions of Russians about what is celebrated on June 12 in Russia, divided between the day of Russia, Independence Day, the Day of adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Some remember that on that day the first Russian president was elected. In general, less than half of Russians know that the holiday on June 12 is the day of Russia.

Such data were obtained according to Levada Center:

47% of respondents - chose the right option - the day of Russia;

33% live in the early 2000s and voted for the Independence Day;

6% - remembered Boris Yeltsin;

8% - did not answer;

4% - said that this is not a holiday at all;

2% - suggested options that are knocked out of the general list.

At the government level

Russians subconsciously draw an analogy between the day of Russia, calling it Independence Day, and the Independence Day in the United States. This is fundamentally not true. If the US gained independence at a time, since the signing of the Declaration, Russia has been independent for a long time, and the date of proclaiming Russia as a state can not be specifically named.

However, not only ordinary people do not know, on June 12, what a holiday, Difficult to determine it and at the top. As MP Nikolai Pavlov rightly noted in 2007, the beginning of the Declaration of Sovereignty proclaims Russia part of the Soviet Union. The exact text reads as follows: "Parrying, Alexei Mitrofanov generally said that with the same success, on a par with the national holiday, June 12 can be considered the day of the LDPR, because on this day Zhirinovsky in the presidential election took 3rd place than secured an influential place in Policy ". Here such confusion.

history of the holiday

At the state level, this, of course, is today the most important holiday. This is the date from which the formation of a new statehood began on the basis of the principles of democracy, civil law, federalism.

At first the people were not up to the holidays. June 12 - what a holiday! The difficult situation in the country, the default for default, the crisis after the crisis ... There is no time to understand the essence of the political situation - we would have to support ourselves and the family. At that time, too, polls were conducted, and the results were not impressive - at the mention of the Independence Day, people's eyes did not light up with patriotism, they did not understand the essence of the holiday. The only thing that pleased the Russians - an extra day off, which could be devoted to rest. The authorities, of course, sought to popularize the holiday, held rallies and demonstrations, but it was somehow without enthusiasm.

Boris Yeltsin decided to change the semantic load of the holiday by changing the name. In 1998, it was proposed to rename it on the Day of Russia, but the final decision was made only in 2002.

Today, Russia's day is a symbol of national unity, homeland, freedom, peace and harmony. The patriotism of the people is growing, perhaps it was due to the successful Winter Olympics in Sochi, the annexation of the Crimea. Let us not yet fully realized the importance of this holiday, but, undoubtedly, we began to treat him much better. Perhaps the whole reason is that life in the country has improved somewhat.

And what was before ...

Celebrating Russia's Day, June 12, one should not forget about the centuries-old history and traditions of the state, after all, its formation took place not in 1990, but much earlier. There were times when the glory of the state burned even brighter. And the fact that today we are independent, the result is not the signing of the Declaration on the Sovereignty of Russia, but the centuries-old efforts of our ancestors who earned this right at the cost of their blood and happiness.

There was an event in the history of Russia, which, in its significance, is comparable to the signing of the 1990 Declaration. This event - the election of the Prince of Rostov and Suzdal, Andrei Yuryevich Bogolyubsky. It happened on June 4, 1157. As a result, northeastern Russia became independent with respect to Kiev, and Andrei Bogolyubsky became the first elected prince. That's where you need to draw parallels.

Later the Grand Duchy of Vladimir, in which Andrei Bogolyubsky ruled, became the Grand Duchy of Moscow. And it already served as the basis for an independent Russian state. Thus, Kievan Rus fell apart, so the Soviet Union collapsed. Thank God that we managed to preserve the foundations of statehood at that distant time and in our near past.

As for the date, then, without delving into the subtleties of the difference in the dating of the Julian and Gregorian calendars, it can be noted that the election of Andrei Bogolyubsky and Boris Yeltsin occurred with a difference of one day. Therefore, this day it is worthwhile to think about the historical origins of the Russian statehood.

What else happened on June 12

Perhaps not everyone will remember today, but the holidays and events on June 12 are not limited to the Day of Russia. On the same day, when the Declaration of Independence was adopted, another important event happened: censorship was banned. From that day on, at the government level, freedom of speech was allowed. Exactly one year later, in 1991, Leningrad was returned to its original name - St. Petersburg.

Of the most significant events on this day, it is worth mentioning the opening of the second front by agreement with Britain and the United States in 1942; Publication of the constitution of the USSR in 1936, which received the name "Stalin". In 1798, the institute of noble maidens was established on this day , and in 1648 a Salt riot broke out. This is the story of this day.

What is celebrated on June 12 in addition to the Day of Russia? Many cities celebrate City Day. As for the global practice, in the UN countries on June 12 became the World Day Against Child Labor, the purpose of which is to draw attention to the problems of exploitation of child labor, working children. The decision to celebrate this date was taken in 1997.
