About the theater
The Russian Musical Theater (Petrozavodsk) has existed since 1955. The premiere show of the first performance of the troupe was held on November 5th. It was the operetta "Free Wind" by Isaac Dunaevsky. The theater became famous thanks to the ballet "Sampo". Its authors - composer G. Sinisalo and choreographer I. Smirnov, as well as performers of leading parties became in 1987 the laureates of the State Prize of Russia. Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka. The building, where the theater is located, was built according to the project of S. Brodsky. He was an outstanding Soviet architect. In 2006, the reconstruction of the theater began. It was completed in 2009. To date, the music theater has the largest stage in the country and is equipped with the most modern equipment. The auditorium is designed for 607 seats.
The theater constantly takes part in theater festivals in different cities of Russia and abroad. The ballets "Romeo and Juliet" and "Cinderella" were nominated for the Golden Mask Award. The performer of the party Mercutio - Vladimir Varnava - became the winner in the nomination "Best male role". He is by far the youngest dancers who received such a high award in the history of the award. Lighting designer Alexander Mustonen received the "Golden Mask" as the best lighting artist. The ballet "The Nutcracker" in the production of the musical theater of Petrozavodsk is among the best performances of our country.
Troupe
The Musical Theater of Karelia (Petrozavodsk) is a huge troupe, in which there are about 200 artists. The ballet troupe is considered to be one of the youngest in our country, its soloists work in various dance genres. The theater is supported by graduates of the A.Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, Perm Choreography School, as well as artists from Japan. The opera troupe is creative youth, laureates and students of various competitions, People's and Honored Artists of Karelia. Voices of opera performances of the musical theater: ten soprano owners, four - mezzo-soprano, five tenors, four baritones, two basses. The choir artists are ten sopranos, six violas, seven tenors, seven basses. With the musical theater also six invited artists collaborate. The orchestra consists of sixty talented professional musicians.
Director of the theater is Elena Larionova, who has the title of Honored Worker of Culture of Karelia.

Children's studio
Musical Theater (Petrozavodsk) opened its doors in 2009 for future ballet stars. A studio for children was opened. It is headed by the Honored Artist of Karelia and Russia N. Galtsin. Set in a ballet studio is carried out on a competitive basis. Here children of two age categories are engaged: the preparatory group (children aged 7 to 9 learn rhythm with elements of classical dance) and basic (10-12 years). Students of the ballet studio participate in contests and festivals, and also go on stage together with adult artists and take part in performances.
