History of the theater

One of the oldest cities in Russia is Ryazan. The theater of drama, which was founded here, is one of the oldest in our country. The year of its foundation is 1778. In 1862, the Opera House became a city drama theater. The tour was visited by such celebrities as FI Shalyapin, M. Shchepkin, M. Petipa, M. Tarkhanov, K. S. Stanislavsky, M. Ermolova and others.

In 1899, the premiere of the legendary "Seagull" took place on the stage of the Ryazan Drama Theater. The repertoire was renewed. The permanent troupe appeared here in 1935. Two years after this event, the theater received regional status. During the war, the actors performed in front of soldiers, in hospitals.

In 1961, for the theater was built a building in which it is located today. The auditorium seats 700 people.

In the 90s of the 20th century the theater headed by Zh. V. Vinogradov took the lead. She showed her great creative potential from the very first performances. She puts the performances brightly, expressively and ingeniously. The performances of J. Vinogradova are a real gold fund of the theater.

Recently there was opened a hall with a small stage. It accommodates only 65 seats. Performances based on poetic material are performed here. One of the same plays was created based on the poetic cycle of Sergei Yesenin "Persian Motives." The theater with this production took part in the contest of performers of poems by Sergei Yesenin and took 1st place.

In 2013-2014 the main director of the Ryazan drama was Sergei Vinogradov.

To date , the theater is headed by Karen Nersisyan. The troupe often takes part in contests and festivals, pleases the viewer with new productions, preserves and develops the traditions of Russian art, while keeping up with modern life.

The Museum

Its creation was timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the theater.
