The history and current state of the Church of the Nativity in Chernevo

The history of the temple, which will be discussed in this article, began in the late 17th century. This particular time between the church schism and the reforms of Peter the Great in church relation was a turning point. However, nothing special happened in the years prior to the revolution with this temple. This greatly differs from him, for example, the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Mitino, which was founded a little later - in the second half of the 18th century. An interesting feature of the same structure is that it survived, being untouched by anyone other than thieves and looters, the entire period of Soviet power.

The history of the Christmas Church before the revolution of 1917

The first temple, on the site of which now houses the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Chernev, was built in 1683. In 1722, it was decided to remove and build a new church of stone. The belfry in the original project was not. It was built later, already in the XIX century. At the request of the peasants who lived in Chernevo, the church in 1800 was attributed to the Vvedensky church, located in the nearby village of Ivanovo. With a petition to the Moscow diocese, Metropolitan Platon appealed to the request of the village priest Vasily Romanov. The estate in which the church was located changed over time from one source to another. At the end of the XIX century it was divided into two parts and sold to two landowners, whose surnames were later called Shubino and Lebedevo.

Church in the post-revolutionary period until 1989

Before the closing of the temple by the Soviet authorities, his priest was the priest Nikolai Vorontsov. And before him in the same church served the father of his wife, from whom he had five children. When the revolution happened, the parish of the Nativity Church in Chernevo was abolished, and the abbot was forced to work at the plant. Nevertheless, during the anti-religious persecution of 1937, he was arrested and sentenced to be shot. The verdict was carried out at the Butovo training ground. The church itself, however, did not suffer. The usual practice of that time for the demolition and explosion of religious buildings did not touch the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Chernevo. Actually, it remained untouched even by the end of the Great Patriotic War. In 1974, the temple was awarded the status of a monument of architecture, which is under state protection. Unfortunately, this did not save the church from the fact that by the end of the 1980s it was in a very deplorable state. Over the previous years, inactivity and lack of ownership, it was completely looted, including even floor coverings.

Temple after 1989 to the present day

The return of the church building to the believers happened only in 1989. After a period of restoration work and the restoration of the Church of the Nativity in Chernevo, a full-fledged parish with regular divine services again appeared. By now, the church premises have been completely restored, and the temple area is well-maintained. In addition, a Sunday school building was built near the church, and new bells appeared on the bell tower.

Formally, the church of the Nativity of Christ in Chernevo has one throne. But there is a second, attached. It is set on the days when it is necessary to perform two liturgies on the same day, because according to Orthodox traditions, it is strictly forbidden to perform the same worship twice on the same day on the same throne. It is consecrated in honor of the Mother of God in memory of its icon of Kazan.

How to get there

To get to the church in honor of the Nativity of Christ, you need to drive along the Butovskaya branch of the metro to the station "Gorchakov Street". Then go to the church on foot. This will be about ten minutes average walking pace. There is also an opportunity to get to the temple from the metro station "Yasenevo". To do this, you need to take a bus on route number 202.
