Saint Tatiana. Holy Martyress Tatiana

January 25 is the day of the memory of the holy martyr Tatiana. We propose to find out who Saint Tatyana is, how her life went, where temples and churches are built in her honor. Her name (in the Church Slavonic language of Tatiana means "the organizer") was given to her by her father in the hope that she would arrange her life in a new way, with Christ.

Childhood and youth of St. Tatiana

Saint Tatiana grew up in the family of noble citizens of Rome. The parents of the future saint occupied a very high position in society, while they were secret Christians. Education of the daughter attached special importance. Since childhood, the future martyr has well mastered the ideals of Christian piety. Being faithful to Christ was a difficult and dangerous task, requiring a feat. The beginning of the II century from the Nativity of Christ is the time of persecution, the killing of believers. So, watching the life of believing Christians, the holy martyr Tatyana as a child absorbed the idea of persistent faith and asked God in the children's prayers to give her the strength not to get off the chosen path. The Lord fulfilled her petitions. After becoming an adult, Tatiana rejected all the joys of a secure life, decided to dedicate her talents to the church. She consciously refused to marry and chose the path of the "bride of Christ", that is, the path of virginity. So she embellished herself with the virtue of chastity.

Diakonis Tatiana

The pastor of the church drew attention to the ardent faith and diligence of the young Tatiana and offered her service in the rank of deaconesses. She accepted this gift of honor with joy and responsibility. Being a deaconess, Saint Tatyana participated in the divine service, her duties included the preparation of people for the sacrament of Baptism, help in this sacred rite. Unceasingly, she preached the word of God, missionary, visited the sick, actually fulfilling the commandment of Christ about love for one's neighbor.

The Martyr's Crown

In the year 222 of R.H. The ruler of Rome was Alexander North, but his power was, rather, nominal. The actual leadership was carried out by the ancient tormentor and opponent of Christians, the Roman Mayor of Ulpian. He persecuted the believers and made the most brutal massacres of them. Of course, the hot faith and merciful service of Tatiana were seen, and she was seized. The Holy Martyr Tatiana was taken to the place of sacrifice to the pagan idol of Apollo, she was asked to recognize in him a god and make a sacrifice. She also began to pray, then there were tremors as an earthquake, the statue of the idol scattered, many ministers perished under the collapsed ceiling of the building.

What he saw triggered an attack of anger among the Roman guards, they began to beat the martyr, deprived her of her eyes, and caused other terrible torments. However, Saint Tatyana continued to pray. She asked God to teach her tormentors, to reveal to them the Truth. And the Lord heeded her prayer, the executioners saw the angels coming forth by Saint Tatiana. Then they, and there were 8 of them, struck by what they saw, rushed the saint to their feet, praying for the forgiveness of their sin, and they confessed Christ to God. For this they were martyred.

Further torture of the saint

The next day, new tortures were invented for Tatiana. Her body was bared, beaten and cut with razors. However, the torturers quickly got tired, some even died themselves, as if someone had taken blows from the body of the martyr and sent them to them. At night, Saint Tatiana was thrown into prison, where she prayed until dawn.

When, in the morning, she appeared at the trial, she did not even see the traces of the terrible tortures she had been subjected to on the eve. This time, she was forced to sacrifice the idol of the goddess Diana. Again the holy maiden prayed. What did Saint Tatiana bring in the prayer? The statue turned to ash from a lightning strike.

In anger, the torturers imprisoned her again. The next day, Tatiana was taken to the arena with a wild lion to be torn to pieces in front of the public. However, the lion did not damage the martyr and even began to caress the saint and lick her legs. When one of the guards, suspecting that it was a hand-made beast, wanted to remove him from the arena, he tore it up.

The torturers did not know what else to torture the woman. Saint Tatyana, whose icon is venerated by the Orthodox around the world, was sentenced to death by a stabbing of her head. At the same time, her father was also executed, who decided to follow the example of his daughter and open his faith. This event dates back to the twelfth of January, 226 AD.
