Theater "Sovremennik" on Yauza: about the theater, repertoire, troupe

Theater "Contemporary" (on the Yauza) exists since the middle of the twentieth century. Founded by his young and enthusiastic actors. Today it is one of the most famous theaters of the country.

About the theater

Theater "Contemporary" (on Yauza) was founded by Oleg Tabakov, Galina Volchek, Evgeni Evstigneev, Oleg Efremov, Igor Kvasha and other graduates of the Moscow Art Theater School.

The basis of the repertoire from the first day of existence and still consists of plays written by contemporary playwrights. Many of them were created specifically for the theater.

The first leader of "Contemporary" was Oleg Efremov. The troupe often travels around the country, and everywhere the actors are accompanied by a constant full house.

The main director of "Contemporary" for many years is Galina Volchek. Thanks to her in the repertoire appeared plays that were previously unfamiliar to our viewers. Of course, it does not do without the eternal classics: N.V. Gogol, A.P. Chekhov, FM Dostoyevsky and many other authors.

In essence, there is no such thing as "Contemporary" on the Yauza ". Since 2014, the theater instead of its main stage, which is located at Chistoprudny Boulevard, house number 19A, is temporarily working on another site - in the Palace on Yauza. This is due to the fact that the native scene of "Contemporary" since 2015 is closed for major repairs.

For his creative life, a lot of downs and ups were experienced by the Sovremennik Theater (on Yauza). His address is Zhuravlyov square, house number 1.

As before, the theater very often goes on tour today. It regularly happens not only in different cities of our vast country, but also in other countries: in the USA, the Baltic States, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and many others.
