Sights of Volgograd - a living embodiment of the hardships of war

Going to some new place for us, we usually plan in advance which sights of the city are worth seeing, what places to visit and what interesting things to do in the upcoming trip. However, the sights are not always only museums, monuments, structures, but also landmarks, including in the historical plan. In this sense, mentioning the sights of Volgograd, you must first of all name the city itself.

Yes, Volgograd itself is a valuable place in the history of our country where the Battle of Stalingrad took place - a great battle that crowned with victory.

Mamayev Kurgan - a monumental embodiment of the history of the city

It was Stalingrad, the former Tsaritsyn and the present Volgograd, one of the first to raise the Red Banner of October. The landmark and the main attraction of the city today is Mamayev Kurgan - a symbol of the Second World War. Climbing the stairs that go high into the sky, at the very top you can see the unusually beautiful and majestic statue "Motherland", recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest in the world.

Here, on Mamayev Kurgan, you can visit other sights of Volgograd: look at the hall of military glory with access to the Square of Sorrow, walk along the alley of pyramidal poplars, enjoy the coolness of one of the fountains. On Victory Day, there are always a lot of flowers, and the Lake of Crying flows over the edge like tears shed in the war.

The Stalingrad Battle Museum

Another symbol of the memory of the Great Patriotic War is the museum dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad. It stores about four thousand exhibits, reminiscent of the battle, the courage of our ancestors, the joy of victory. Among them, weapons, military documents, as well as personal belongings of the defenders of the Motherland.

Embankment of the Volga River - a favorite place for citizens

However, these are not all important sights. Volgograd is also famous for its location on the Volga River. Going to Volgograd, be sure to visit the central embankment of the city with its many avenues and historical monuments. On Victory Day from here you can see a splendid salute, and on warm days have fun at the attractions and relax in one of the many summer cafes.

A walk along the "Alley of Heroes" to the monuments to the heroes of the war

From the embankment towards the center of the city leads a wide boulevard, called the Alley of Heroes. In the center of it, surrounded by eight monumental buildings, is a city park framed with poplars. By the way, the poplar in the area of the Fallen fighters is a real hero of the city, having suffered the adversity of war and has been living for more than a hundred years.

How much memory of the war and its heroes is kept by Volgograd! The sights of the city are dedicated to the true self-sacrificing soldiers who laid down their lives for the sake of the Motherland. One of the most famous is the memorial to the Heroes of the Soviet Union, who fought for Stalingrad. Reading out the names, you can find the names of representatives of different nationalities. Among the numerous monuments is the bust of the pilot Vasily Yefremov, who shot down about 35 enemy planes and became a hero of the Soviet Union twice.

The famous Pavlova House

Of course, we can not fail to mention another landmark in Volgograd - the House of Pavlov. Here during the battle the Soviet soldiers under the command of Sergeant Pavlov kept the defense. This four-story building is considered one of the prestigious houses of Volgograd and is surrounded by elite houses: signalmen and NKVD workers.

The trip to Volgograd will allow you to plunge into the history of the Great Patriotic War, touch the memory of the heroes of our country, feel the majesty of the victory at Stalingrad and, paying a visit to the main sights of Volgograd, pay tribute to those who died for our Motherland and our lives.
